"I don't think I'm ready for the wedding," said Mia while pressing a cool cucumber slice on her tired eye.
Both Ava and I stared at her weirdly, exhausted from the day. These final touch-ups on our dresses had taken a toll on us. We worked all day until sunset without catching a breath. Bethany of all people had been the greatest help for Lucia and the one who worked the hardest among us, so now that we were scattered around my bed, she had fallen asleep without notice. Ava was petting Boblizabeth as Mia did her fifty-step skin care routine before the big day.
"I mean, I am ready, I just don't think we've done enough for the wedding," Mia corrected and covered her other eye with a cucumber slice. "I'm not fully satisfied."
"It's not like you've ever been fully satisfied, Mia. Don't worry, everything will be perfect," I said and gently tucked Bethany under my covers, who was sound asleep next to me.
Our little Mia was getting married tomorrow. Mia and Minho. Minho and Mia. I still couldn't believe it.
There was a knock on the door.
Ava stopped petting Boblizabeth and she stopped purring. Mia went silent but didn't raise a cucumber to see what happened.
"The boys are here already? Ugh, I'm not finished ranting," she mumbled and massaged her eyebrows.
"Mia," Ava stared, "the boys are out for a drink."
Going out for a drink or at the very least, a night stroll would have been very nice. But no, Mia gathered all of us in my room because she feared her ankles would get swollen after the stroll or the alcohol would make her look puffy for the wedding pictures. Same, old Mia.
"I'll go see who it is," I sighed and got off the bed.
When I cracked open the door I saw...no one. The corridor was dead from any people or any form of life. Strange.
"There's no one there," I shut the door and walked to my bed. Ava gave me a quizzical stare to which I returned with a shrug.
"Great, now I'm hearing things because of my migraine. I've gone nuts."
"We all heard it, Mia," Ava commented.
"Then we've all gone nuts," she replied back.
There was another knock on the door. This time, Mia raised a single cucumber slice so to exchange glances with Ava and I, making sure we heard the second knock as well. She clicked her tongue and covered her eye again.
"They're just playing with us and I happen to not have the energy to deal with immature little pranksters right now. Tell them to cut it out or I'm not marrying Minho tomorrow. I don't want to marry a kid."
"Yes, ma'am," I sighed and got back on my feet. I dragged my tired self all the way back to the door and unlocked it, only to be met with empty, dark silence. Literally. The corridor was pitch black. All lights were off.
"No one there?" Called Ava.
"Yeah... But that's not the issue."
"What is it then?"
"Um..." I locked the door and turned on my heels. "Does the hotel have a black out? The corridor wasn't lit."
Stupid of me to ask this since if the hotel did have a black out then my room wouldn't have the lights on-
The lights just switched off.
"Does it look like it has a black out?" sassed Mia and raised the cucumber slice from her eye only to be met with pure obsidian emptiness. "Oh, it does have a black out," she announced.
