Xiao Zhan had always dismissed the idea that fate was also a gift bestowed by the moon gods upon their kind. That is, until he learned that vampires could, indeed, have destined mates in werewolves.

This revelation had gently shifted his beliefs: "Perhaps fate touches even us." Though, he still doubted such fortume applied to rare, shapeshifting vampires like himself.

However, confronted with recent events, he can't help but reconsider.

With a sigh, Xiao Zhan closes his laptop and glances at Yibo, who had already drifted into sleep beside him.

Xiao Zhan's initial approach to understanding the mystery surrounding werewolves had been logical: seek insight from the Alpha Prince of Beijing. It was a pain that said prince had vanished long before Chongqing's consideration to lift the werewolf restrictions became a pressing concern.

But everything changed when he learned that it were also werewolves—reckless, power-hungry seer wizards—who had killed Xu Liangzhu. These werewolves, striving for domination over those that didn't possess inherited or mastered magic.

They wanted to be held with the highest regard, even more than their own moon god, and they stopped at nothing in the desperation to attain it.

Seer wizards had ruined and changed so many lives. Including Xiao Zhan's.

Xiao Zhan glances down, running his fingers along the soul pendant as memories of his younger days surfaced.

He had never dreamed of ruling over anyone, or anything.

But he wasn't born an ordinary vampire; ancient blood flowed through him, marking him as a shapeshifter.

Shapeshifting vampires had long been underestimated. Morphing abilities were considered a mere novelty—useful, perhaps, but insignificant.

The non-passive ability of magic manipulation was never honed to the level of its potential in the legends, as their kind had lacked the disciplined focus required to master magic.

Xiao Zhan himself shared the same reluctance, initially wanting nothing to do with the mystical arts.

Yet, upon becoming head warrior and protector of Chongqing's vampire borders, his reality changed.
