I woke up to my normally antagonising alarm clock bleeping, only this time getting up wasn't a burden at all, to see the time read an hour far too obscure to be getting up. I laid there for a moment, staring up at the ceiling in the dim lighting of the early morning. I wanted to savour this moment, knowing I had an entire summer of sheer bliss ahead of me. Because I knew, as soon as I got up and started this holiday, time would already be ticking down. A sudden eruption of butterflies exploded in my stomach as a result of knowing that, in about six hours time, I would be reunited with my entire family at the place I felt happiest. A small smile escaped from my lips and began to grow wider and wider as I pictured the endless possibilities of all the fun things we'd get up to this year.
The thought was enough to make me giddy inside.
The usual frantic morning was blatantly in full swing as my mum, dad, younger brother and I all raced up and down the house doing our last minute packing. After having eaten breakfast, not that I could even face the thought of food at this ridiculous o'clock, I blasted my 'Summer <3' playlist that was going to see me through the long journey that awaited me. While doing my eyeliner, I hummed along to the lyrics of 'Fourth of July' by Fall Out Boy.
"I'm starting to forget, just what summer ever meant to you. What did it ever mean to youuuu!"
Looking in my mirror, I was finally content with my appearance of black skinnies, a grey crop top and my long hair loosely waved from the bun I'd previously slept in. Finally, I picked up my sunglasses, earphones and luggage bag I'd packed the night prior, before quickly tying my plaid shirt around my waist and making my way down to help load the taxi up with all our bags.
And just like that, I was en route to a summer I'd never forget.
