Beatrice had already left and Camila was still sitting in front of her laptop. During the day she had briefly driven into the city and got some equipment. She had just been trying to connect all the cameras to her network for two hours. While the others were talking about plans, the safety of their new accommodation was important to them. Still, it still didn't work. Annoyed, she banged both fists on the table next to the laptop.
"Is it still not working?"
Yasmine stepped behind her and began to massage her shoulders. She had never been a fan of massages before, but with Yasmine it was very pleasant. "No. Somehow not."
With a long sigh, she leaned against Yasmine's hands. She had spent countless hours in her laboratory, newly set up by Jillian. Nights For a long time she had been working on how to remove the thing from her spinal cord. Her back and neck still took revenge for it.
"Did you hear from Todd again?"
"Todd."
Almost a little too dramatically, Camila dragged out his name. After the fight in Adriel's cathedral, they had met a few more times, but after the first time, Camila knew she didn't like more than looking at him. She had also made this clear to him and broke off contact. Her sisters just didn't know about it.
"No."
With another sigh, she leaned forward again to continue working on the cameras. She also withdrew Yasmine's massage. It was harder than she had ever thought to interpret her feelings. After learning about Beatrice and Ava and seeing how close they were, Camila began to think about herself. Crazy what insights she came from. Probably the many times together with Yasmine and Beatrice's openness made it easy for her. Even though she wouldn't admit it yet, Camila liked Yasmine more than just a sister. It was all the more difficult to hide it when there were always moments like this.
"What's wrong?" asked Camila gently, standing next to her.
"Nothing." It sounded very implausible. "I'm just tired and don't feel like talking about Todd when there are more important things we should take care of."
"Are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"
"Absolutely. I'd much rather do it like Beatrice and rest a bit before eating."
Camila had just shut down and closed the laptop when she tried to get up and was held back by Yasmine's arm.
"You know that I'm always there for you and the others when you want to talk. I would be very happy if you are willing to open up to me."
Camila nodded gratefully and made her way to her room with the laptop tucked under her arm. It had a more comfortable atmosphere than the one in the monastery. Since there was at least one small cross hanging in each room, it was not too difficult for her to set up a cozy corner for her prayers. Like every day, no matter where she was, Camila knelt before the cross and began to pray. To give Mother Superior more privacy, she shared the room with Yasmine. They hadn't been here that long and it looked like a bomb had hit. Books, paper, and some rolls of paper were scattered all over her nightly research. But in itself, Yasmine was a pleasant roommate, except she snored again at night. Even though Camila herself could not sleep anymore, it was cute to watch how Yasmine was very calm and said nothing for once. As if on cue, she entered the room. As if she had heard Camila's thoughts. Despite her loud entry and awkward stumbling, Camila was not distracted by her prayer. Yasmine had to be very close to her, because the goose bumps over her entire body seemed to alarm her. A little earlier than usual, Camila finished her prayer and turned around and sat right across from her roommate.
"What do you think is between Ava and Beatrice?"
Somewhat surprised by the question, Camila first had to think a bit about what she answered. Yasmine had told her about their kiss. So she knew they were more than just sisters.
"Whatever it is, I hope it works for both of them. In these times, sincere love is a rare commodity."
"So you really think they love each other?"
"You've seen it yourself."
Yasmine seemed to think about it for a moment.
"Yes I have. But I still don't know if it's right. In several ways."
Camila looked at her a little shocked and stunned. Had she been serious?
"How can we know? Ava told us how much was wrong that we always thought was the truth. So we do not know what role we still play and what rules apply. But you can see and feel the love between the two. Love is always right."
It took her more effort than she wanted to admit to say these words. It was definitely easier to give the advice to talk about this topic. It seemed that Beatrice had taken something positive out of it and had really tried Ava. Although the two still seemed a bit distant, the incredible connection between them was still strong. That's how much Camila wanted something like that for herself.
"Have you ever imagined what it would be like if you weren't a member of the Church?"
This question more or less slipped out of Camila. She had often asked herself the question. Yasmine's answer, however, was not really surprising.
"No. Never. I wouldn't know what to do without the history of my ancestors and the myths of faith. Why, did you?"
"Oh yes. Often. I did not choose it like you or was led to the faith. I was forced at the time and found much more in it than I had thought.
"What do you mean?"
"I became an orphan at a very young age and was sent relatively quickly from an orphanage to the monastery. Three years ago I was recruited by the OCS. The countless times I've secretly sneaked into a computer have paid off."
Yasmine started laughing.
"I'm sorry. Of course, it's not funny what you had to go through, but you ended up at OCS because you secretly sat at the computer?"
Now Camila had to laugh too and both couldn't stop. It was the first time in a while that she could laugh so easily and courageously.
"You know. Sometimes I don't regret anesthetizing you when we first met."
"Oh, that's how it is."By the time it was time to eat, they knuckled and laughed together, and the tiredness had completely disappeared. For Camila it had been the best two hours of her life so far and moments with Yasmine were what she increasingly wished for in the future. Because no matter if love also played a role, happiness was definitely omnipresent when they spent time together.
