My blood runs cold and I feel myself freeze. The hair on my arms stand up as I listen to what's going on outside.
My arms tense around Kamau's hands as I hear it again.
"SYRIAN STOP." I hear the desperation in Levos.
I drop Kamau's arm as I go to the front wall.
I hear a bunch more screaming coming from everyone.
"Hey! What's happening?! Where's Syrian!" My heart drops when I'm met with silence.
Kamau seems to be completely awake now as he stands beside me.
I Freeze when I see it.
Something I never thought possible, suddenly was.
The wall four feet in front of us separates, just big enough for a little body to walk through. The opening looks like liquid as it holds its shape.
And then Syrian walks through the wall and it closes behind him when he runs straight into my legs, sobbing while screaming my name.
I frantically pick him up and look over him. "Are you alright? Did you do that?" My voice dripping with worry mixed with shock and doubt.
Kamau yells over, "is Seri alright?"
I hold my breath until I hear Cela's frantic voice. "Yes she's fine is Syrian okay!? He's not hurt is he?"
I release the breath I was holding and grit my teeth. "He's fine. But when I get out of here you guys won't be."
I'm met with silence.
How did Syrian manage to run in here and no one caught him.
And did I really just see him manipulate metal?
I mean I am holding him in my arms.
But it shouldn't be possible?
But we live in a world where people have quhals and I can literally stop time.
But nothing could penetrate this material. I don't even know what it's made of.
Syrian just crys harder in my arms as I watch the never ending tears stain his cheeks and make his blue eyes even bluer.
"Okay, okay," I say softly and cradle Syrian to my chest. "Don't cry, it's okay, we're fine." I whisper as I rub his back soothingly.
I didn't even notice Kamau's hand on my back and Syrians until he starts talking. "Do you know anyone who can do that? Literally manipulate metal or whatever this is made of? Because if this was regular metal it wouldn't be this thick or hard to get out of."
I shake my head. "I've never even heard of someone being able to manipulate hard elements from the periodic table." I pause "well except me." I pause again, "and Lilian. She's got a really cool quhal. Do you ask her to make diamonds so you can get your country richer?"
"What?" He shakes his head. "No I don't ask her to use her powers for my benefit, she owns a jewelry shop and exclusively makes them there only. No shipments."
I nod thinking about it. "I would've asked her to. We would all benefit from it, even if it's a little selfish, I'd raise her rank and make it worth it."
He just looks at me blankly before going back on topic.
"And he did this?" He looks at the little bundle in my arms and I nod. "Who else would it be? If it was someone out there they would've done it already or not a all."
"He's three, Circe. I've never heard of a three year old developing a quhal. And I thought I got mine early at eight."
"Well I got mine at four." I shrug. "So it's definitely possible."
