"Where'd mommy go? Is she hurt? I saw blood." Syrian asks me with a worried look on his face.
"Yea! I saw blood, is she gonna die?" Seri asks as she sits on my horse behind Syrian.
I got off the horse when Circe got off hers.
I keep my right hand securely wrapped around the twins ankles so they don't fall as I keep watching, waiting for Circe to get back.
"She's fine, don't worry, she had to take care of something." I say vaguely, not fully paying attention as my gut turns the longer she's gone.
She saved me. I was being dumb and not paying attention and it almost made me blind, or worse, killed.
And now Circe's hurt because of me and now she's god knows where injured.
I should have never let her go off alone.
The cut isn't even a cut, the knife literally kabob'd her. And she pulled it out in front of my face without any emotion.
She says that her injuries aren't painful but are they really?
How can she react like that? Is she some sort of robot? I really wish I knew what she's thinking.
She worries me constantly, just running off to do her own thing, getting injured because of me on multiple occasions.
I try to take a deep breath. Hopefully everything will calm down when we get to Asthlim.
Levos comes up next to me. "She just ran off?" He gets straight to it.
"Seems like it." She'll be back of course but she didn't even say where.
"She was talking to the prisoner before she left." He says out loud.
"Do you know why?" I ask him.
He nods. "Something about finding another trap."
I roll my eyes but my stomach twists into knots.
Why would she willingly go into a trap, by herself at that.
"Where's your brother?" I redirect the conversation before my worries bubble up into something physical.
He shrugs. "He's been sulking and feeling a little guilty about what happened earlier so I think he's giving everyone a little space."
I hum. I should talk to Circe about talking to him. I think talking to her will mean more then if I went to talk to him.
And now I'm thinking about Circe again.
I feel a hand on my shoulder and I turn around and look down, seeing Selkie.
My eyebrows bunch up, clearly confused.
"I know your worried, I can feel it radiating off of you, but you shouldn't be. She does things by herself, it's in her nature and this is a perfectly normal thing, get used to it." He pats my shoulder and walks away before I can respond.
I stand there frozen. Levos equally as quiet.
Did that really just happen?
Selkie just walked up to me, touched me and then said like three sentences.
And I have to just let Circe do things by herself and worry about her all the time?
The only reason I didn't go this time is because I didn't want to leave the kids alone.
I sigh and shake my head as I think about how I'm going to convince her to let us do things together.
I know she's independent and likes her quiet, but she did agree we are a couple no?, and couples do things together.
