24 hours, that's how long Oliver lasted. He died 24 hours after he got to the house that we all knew would start to stink to high heaven. We all cried—except for Amanda because she didn't know what was going on, and Gideon because he didn't actually know Oliver—we sobbed over the body as yet another car pulled up to the house. Nada quickly dried her tears and welcomed the Hudsons inside, explaining why they were here and how long we would most likely stay.

Two months, at least. She said.

No one leaves. That's what she told us.

Nobody was very happy about that, the Hudson parents were mad that they were taken away from home with no explanation and Noah was mad that he couldn't have his phone to call his girlfriend. Olivia had a whole summer planned and had to cancel it so she was mad about that. Gideon wasn’t mad, but then again he never was. I was always mad, and this was no exception.

After two weeks, the smell was so bad that we had to get rid of Oliver's body. Nada took it out to the backyard and buried it in the afternoon, marking it so that we could dig it up and give him a proper burial when we got out of here. I had made the decision to fix Jake's name and raise him to know that I was his mom. From stories about how the Hudsons changed Noah's name when he was adopted, I was able to help it go quickly by calling him Jake-Finn, that way he heard his name and the name we were changing it to at the same time and learned to respond to just Finn after a while. A month into our house arrest, Gideon and I started hanging out a lot with Finn, mainly because I never wanted to leave Finn's side and Gideon didn't want to leave mine unless he was with Amanda. Amanda, Lizzy and Anton became friends quickly and were almost inseparable after a few weeks though so it wasn't often that Gideon was with her. Slowly, I think Gideon and I just started dating without ever actually saying we were dating. And why wouldn't we? He had wanted to go out for a while, and so had I, so we finally did.
