In that time, Gideon asked one singular question, "Who's Jacob?"
"My son." He nodded his head slowly, as if trying to process it and then was quiet the rest of the wait. When we got in Nada's car, I gave her the letter to read.
"How did they find him?" She asked me.
"How should I know Nada, you're the one who hid him. I called Oliver, he's on his way to get them now."
"Okay, I was quiet. You know, I was letting you do whatever. But when did you have a kid!" Gideon asked.
"Two years ago in December." I answered him quickly before turning back to Nada, "Did you put people on the Hudson's house?"
Nada nodded and turned off a back road down a street I've never seen. "Wait a minute," Gideon pulled on my shoulder, "you cannot leave it at that. Who's the father? Why didn't you keep him? How did you have a kid at fourteen!"
"I can leave it at that Gideon. This is not one of the subjects you can snoop about." I snapped at him, we drove the rest of the way in silence until Nada pulled into a driveway at an old farmhouse. "Inside." She ordered everyone. Lizzy and Amanda held each other's hands as they walked in front of us. I chewed on my fingernails, contemplating apologizing to Gideon for snapping. But when I looked for him, he was nowhere to be found.

When I found him, Gideon was in the car typing something into the search bar on his phone. "I-" I began, never good at apologies, "I'm sorry for snapping. It wasn't fair to you, please come inside where it’s safe."
"I'm not in the car because I'm mad at you Lyn. If you don't want to tell me about your kid, you don't want to tell me, and I won't press. I'm just out here because I'm doing some hacking. The tracker on the car is still on, I'm turning it off. You’re not the only one with interesting hobbies."
"You never cease to impress, Gideon McLain." I took my seat beside him and watched as he typed away at his phone, which was connected to the car with an aux cord.
"It was a mission." I blurted. "I was undercover."
"So what happened?" He asked, putting his phone away.
"Like I said, I was undercover, we're always taught to protect our covers at all costs. So I did. Then the job was over and I went home. I tried not to think anything of it, but a month later..." I trailed off.
"You found out you were pregnant?"
"Yeah, I killed the father for the job but Jake didn’t deserve to die because of my age or anything else. I stayed home for a while after that and haven't been allowed to go undercover since. I gave him up for adoption, but it was really hard. That's why my parents left us home for this mission, they were leaving the family program. They felt guilty for what happened."
"That's awful. I can't believe how much you've been through in just sixteen years."
"I wanted to keep him, but mom and dad wouldn't let me. The adoption is open so I can see him when I get older." I swiped at a stray tear then stopped, peering out the window.
"Hey, come here." Gideon said softly.
"No, hush, a car just parked outside." The door of the other car opened and Oliver staggered out. I rushed to help him and heard crying coming from the backseat.
"Gideon come help Oliver inside!" I shouted, opening the back door of the car. My breath caught in my throat at the sight of him in his carseat. Finn I thought that was supposed to be your name. Carefully, I unbuckled him and picked him up, shushing him while carrying him inside. Once everyone was inside, Nada and Gideon started working on Oliver to see what was wrong with him and if they could help. Oliver was unconscious as soon as he laid down though and was utterly no help. Amanda and Lizzy helped me take care of Jake—Finn!—and I kept them out of Gideon and Nada's way.
