Se-ri was standing at her favourite spot looking at the ocean, hoping she would see a whale or two. Humpback whales could be seen year-round in these waters and the gray whales between December to April on their annual migration. She was fortunate to see a gray whale last week. With her coffee cup in hand, the aroma from the coffee was heavenly, if she could not have Jeong hyeok coffee, this was a very close second. Lisa had a thing with coffee and she was right. The coffee was from a coffee shop that roasted their own coffee and Lisa's strict ritual made a great cup of coffee.
She was thinking about the ski trip to Tahoe, it was most the fun she had in a long time. She could not remember why she stopped skiing, was it because her time was dedicated to Se-ris Choice? Was it because of her family? But she realised how much she loved and missed skiing and she was going to resume it when she got back to Korea. She skied the whole day and was about to leave with David and Lisa when she realised there was night skiing, so she stayed. Her friends looked at her amazed, they did not expect her to be such a good skier. She got back to the hotel late, she was tired but it was a good tired. It was New Year's Eve and they decided to get together on New Year's Day to watch the Rose Parade at Lisa's house for breakfast.
They had eaten and seated waiting for the Rose Parade to start.
"I have never seen the Rose Parade. What can I expect?" Se-ri asked
"The floats are covered with flowers of all kinds and all the materials used must be seeds, bark and flowers. It is amazing what they can do. Some floats are small, some large and there are marching bands." Lisa replied.
The Parade started and Se-ri was amazed with the floats and the flowers. She thought she might be able to get some ideas for Sheri's Choice.
The Parade finished and Lisa turn off the television.
"Se-ri, did you have a good time skiing?" David asked
"Yes, I loved it. Thank you suggesting that we go skiing."
"You are very good. Have you skied much in Korea?" he asked
"When I was younger, but in the last few years I have not. But, I will be skiing again. I did not realize how much I missed it."
"Did you get the DNA results?" Lisa asked
"No, I thought I would have gotten it by now. I hope it comes before I leave for Korea. I have to go every three months."
"How long will you be gone for?" David asked.
"Two weeks, maybe longer, but not too much longer. I still have a lot to do and see here."
What would do like to do when you return?" he asked
"I would like to go to the Missions. At least the ones that are close by."
"We could do that. Lisa, how about you? Would you like to come with us?"
"I will see when the time comes. The Missions are interesting."
That evening Se-ri was again standing at her favourite spot looking at the ocean. It was dark and she thought about her day and her thoughts went to Jeong hyeok. How are you? Are you thinking of me like I am thinking of you? Are you missing me like I am missing you? I don't want to get my hopes up that we will be together. Are you now married? Are you happy? There was no reply. Good night, Jeong hyeok, my hope for you is to be happy and well.
