Chapter 41 The Arrival

Summer Autumn

Early mornings were his favourite time of the day, Se-ri was sleeping beside him. He looked at her, bent and gave her a gentle kiss on her forehead. The past few months were momentous for them, they were expecting twins, a boy and a girl. She lamented to him that she did not like the maternity clothes in the stores, so, she did what she always did well, went to work on a stylish maternity line. She was pleased that the line was released well before she started to get bigger with the twins.

She stirred, "Jeong hyeok, were you watching me sleep?"

He kissed her, "Yes, you looked so peaceful. Is today the shopping day with the mothers?"

She groaned, "Yes, I will have to stop them from buying everything in the store. I know they are excited and want the best dressed grand babies but they will outgrow their clothes so quickly."

"It may help if I come with you."

"It will help, are you sure you can come? You are in the middle of composing a score."

"I am ahead of schedule; I can take a few hours off. It is going to be a good movie, I read the script."

"We have to start thinking of the nursery, we can't wait until you go into labor."

"I have some ideas; we will start next month."

They met the mothers at the department store and were surprised to see their fathers.

"Abeoji, what are you doing here" She asked the fathers.

"We want to help your mother with shopping, we want to see what they are buying." Her father answered and his father was grinning.

"Why?"

"We were not involved with our wives' pregnancies and certainly not choosing baby clothes. We do not want to miss out on shopping for our grandchildren." His father said.

She looked at Jeong hyeok, took a deep breath, it was going to be a very long day. The mothers wanted to buy everything and the fathers were just as bad. The parents were behaving like kids in a candy store.

They set down some rules. Each family could buy three outfits for each child. The parents looked at them and was about to protest, but Se-ri cut them off. "Three outfits for each child. They will outgrow the clothes quickly and you can buy more clothes."

The nursery was ready, the nanny was hired and the future parents were looking forward to meeting their children and hoping it would be soon.

Se-ri awoke and headed to the bathroom when her water broke.

"Jeong hyeok, my water broke." He found her standing in the bathroom with a bewildered expression.

"I think they are coming." She said.

"Yes, they are. The doctor said we must go to the hospital when that happens. Let me help you get dressed."

He took her to the hospital and the babies made their entrance after a long and hard labor. Mu hyeok came first and then Binna followed. Jeong hyeok cut the umbilical cord for each baby. They were taken for a quick assessment and then handed back to Se-ri and Jeong hyeok for some skin-to-skin contact. They were parents. They looked at each other, each not believing their little two miracles.

"When you came south so many years ago, did you think we would have the twins you wanted back then?"

"No, it was a dream, an impossible dream. You made us possible, Se-ri."
