Guanjun's new promotion also indicated that he had a trail in the company's blazing pursuit forthwith, so it was necessary he walk onto the spotlighted stage in the dark atrium every day to give speeches, motivational, financially supporting, or whatnot, to his colleagues in Ngiam's World Pte Ltd. It was a stressful job, that was certain, but it was all worth it for the exposed power he possessed over the company's employees. Sure, he was humbled by his friends, and reprimanded by his enemies, but he knew how terribly disappointed he would be if his power was ever stripped from him.

In the meantime, he was going to enjoy the ride. Sure, he had one of his colleagues in the hospital, namely Kiera, and his secretary, Leanne, could sometimes be irritatingly energetic, his scribe, Skyler, whom nobody voted for but somehow still became a scribe, had illegible handwriting, one of his colleagues, Kayden Lee, kept persisting with new ideas that he insisted would "improve the company", another, Matthias Tan, was constantly depressed, and nobody knew how two of his colleagues, Amber and Jing Xi, even ended up in his division, but at least it was his friends by his side most of the time. Speaking of, he'd heard Kiera was returning today from the hospital. He'd look forward to that.

Poised on his recliner, fingers interlocked on the oak, gold-trimmed desk, which had documents splayed across it, Guanjun grinned at his high-rise life. The glimmering name plate that read 'Supervisor' in bold, flourishing typeface sat neatly at the edge of the desk. A gentle rustling noise of broom hairs echoed criss-cross through the incessant humming of the air conditioners and the hollowness of the white pillars cornering the room before reaching Guanjun's ears. "Brayden," he thought.

There was a knock on the grilled doors, and the sweeping sounds halted. The recliner swivelled as Guanjun's hobnail boots came into contact with the antique Persian carpets that blanketed the floor. "Should I get that?" inquired Brayden, his gloved hand already reaching for the polished door handle. Guanjun swept his hand in a fluid motion, indicating refusal, and approached the door himself instead.

The grilled doors swung open nicely, revealing Leanne behind. "Hey! Just checking up on our favourite supervisor!" she chirped, as she did.

"And your only one," responded Guanjun with a lighthearted chuckle.

"That's why you're our favourite," Leanne giggled, padding into the room, "Say, I've got some documents from the other divisions for your perusal, you know, for the speech later. Take a look at them, maybe you could implement them into graphs or charts or... something..." Leanne waved the idea off with a flick of her wrist. "Anyway, just sign the document underneath, and you're set!" She beamed at Guanjun, eyes twinkling.

Guanjun shrugged, retrieved the papers, filed them away neatly and said his farewell to his secretary, then allowed his recliner to revolve to face the panoramic well-scrubbed glass windows lining the back of the room.

This was the life.
