Bonnie's right ear twitched, but he kept his eyes closed, acting asleep. He had heard voices and knew by now he could not reveal himself around them. They sounded like they were on the stage observing the animatronics.
"What was the problem exactly?" One asked.
"Security reported them moving around together a lot last night. There was concern that they were malfunctioning." The other worker responded. Bonnie stiffened at that.
So they could not be caught together-? It sounded like it. The longer they stayed observing them on the stage, however, the more uneasy Bonnie grew. When they began investigating Freddy, his whole body heated up. It was not the same feeling he felt when they had kissed for the first time. It was almost painful, like his entire endoskeleton was twisting. Oil was beginning to develop in his eyes, and he had to force himself to remain still and not shake. He couldn't explain this, but now, even just seeing Freddy being looked over terrified the bunny.
Bonnie did not begin to calm down until they moved to examine him quickly before leaving again. Once they left out the door, Bonnie finally slouched and allowed the oily tears to start falling. His hands rose to claw at his face nervously, and his teeth clenched. When he realized he was going to start losing control, he silently left the stage towards the storage room to hide.
As soon as the door was closed, he rushed to the table to catch himself from falling and forced a hand over his mouth in a fruitless attempt to cover any noises.
What was happening to him?? They did not even do anything, Freddy was fine. Why did he start panicking like that?
He froze at a quick knock on the door. A familiar voice spoke up.
"Bon?? Bonnie, is everything ok?? You ran in here-" Freddy inquired, concern clear in his voice. Bonnie sniffled.
"Y-yeah! I'm...I'm fine-" Despite his efforts, he could not steady his voice. Freddy did not buy his excuse.
"You don't sound fine! Please, let me see what's wrong!" He spoke more loudly, yet he sounded like he was trying to keep his voice down for the others.
"It's just me, Bonnie...please! You're worrying me-" Freddy begged. Bonnie finally gave in. As much as he hated to burden Freddy like this, he was equally confused and worried.
"C-come in..." He muttered. Freddy did not hesitate, and the door flew open and shut swiftly. At the sight of Bonnie leaning on the table for support, Freddy rushed into action. He picked the bunny up by his torso and placed him to sit on the table facing him. When he was up, he forced Bonnie's hands away from his ears as he noticed the bunny was beginning to pull and scratch at them.
"Bonnie, please! You're going to hurt yourself!" Freddy cried, holding his wrists tighter so he could not hide again. The bunny, in return, covered his face with his ears.
The bear sighed and nudged his ears away with his muzzle, lifting a hand under Bonnie's chin to force his head up. Oil was pouring freely from his eyes and mouth, and he looked mortified. The bear softened at that and felt his chest clench at the sight. Bonnie was always so joyful...he was always in a good mood! This had supposedly come out of nowhere...
Both of Freddy's hands moved to the bunny's cheeks to wipe the tears off and stroke his cheeks lovingly.
"It's ok, Bon...I'm right here." He affirmed. The bunny processed what he heard. When what he said had finally registered, the bunny teared up more and shot forward to grip onto him tightly. The bear wasted no time hugging him back with equal force, stroking his back reassuringly. He didn't even mind Bonnie gripping his vest and fur tightly on his back to muffle his cries and stain it with tears. The bunny was also notably heating up even more, almost hot to the touch. Freddy experimentally placed a gentle kiss on his cheek and neck in hopes of calming him. It had worked, but not as Freddy intended. Bonnie suddenly fell limp against him, and his arms fell. The bear pushed him back in alarm.
"Bonnie?!" He called. The bunny's eyes were closed, and he was unresponsive.
"Bon?! Bonnie, wake up!" He cried. Still silence.
"Bonnie?! No, please-!" Oil began building up in his own eyes as he shook Bonnie frantically. He quickly gripped the bunny in an even tighter hug.
"Please! P-please...you can't...don't do this!" The bear sobbed weakly into his neck. The yelling had finally caught the attention of the others. Foxy sprinted in with Chica on his tail.
"Cap'n, what's wrong?!" He asked. Freddy turned to him and wiped his eyes swiftly.
"I-it's Bonnie! He won't wake up!" He yelled. The fox turned to Bonnie fearfully and tried hitting his arm to wake him up with no avail. Chica stood in horror before she snapped out of it, her gaze traveling the room.
"Wait, guys! This is Parts and Service, where they repair us, right?!" She asked. Foxy turned in confusion while Freddy's attention remained on Bonnie, who he was now cradling and whispering to. "Ye-yeah, why-?" He asked. Chica jogged around the room, pushing heads and parts aside to search.
"There must be some sort of manual to figure this out..." She thought out loud. She finally sat up and gripped a small booklet in her hand.
"Aha! Bonnie's manual!" She exclaimed. Foxy jogged over with her to check it.
"What does it say?? He be' burning up and unconscious!" Foxy asked. Chica skimmed through the pages quickly. She finally stopped on one and read it carefully.
"He must have overheated!" She announced. When the others averted their attention to her, she continued.
"When we are overworked or active too long, we start overheating because of the excessive movement in our endoskeletons. When we are having to work faster, we're burning a lot of energy and our gears are having to move faster in order to stay up and running. When we get too hot, we manually freeze or shut down to prevent damage!" She paraphrased the text.
"So...B-Bonnie will be ok-?" Freddy wiped his eyes. Chica nodded.
"Yeah! It looks like it's just temporary." She confirmed. Foxy turned to her in amazement.
"...wow. that was really smart, lass!" He praised. She turned to him in awe.
"R-really??" She asked. Foxy gave her a strong side hug.
"Yar! Way to think on yer' feet, Chica!" Chica glanced down sheepishly."T-thanks..." She responded. Freddy glanced down at Bonnie again and caressed his cheek gently.
"...You guys go. I'll wait here for him to wake up." He said. Foxy glanced back to him.
"Are ye' sure, Fred-?" Foxy asked uncertainly. Freddy nodded.
"Yes. I will keep you guys updated if anything else happens." He said. The others hesitantly got up to leave and close the door. Once they were gone, the bear sighed and picked him up bridal style. He proceeded to place the bunny to lay on the table carefully.
Once he was settled, he glanced at his now peaceful face again. He leaned forward to place a light kiss above his eyebrow and nuzzled his cheek affectionately. After a few seconds of lingering, he pulled away and looked for cleaning supplies to clean the oil off his fur.
