I saw my school buildings from the street. I decided to walk today, since I didn’t go jogging this morning. The building in front of me was so vintage. The walls were made of bricks and there’s a four stories tower in the front, while the rest were three stories. No paint needed for the walls because the bricks already made vintage red as its color. There were still other buildings scattered neatly behind this building. Each one of them had its special purpose.
I didn’t realize someone was following me. I was shocked when she gave me jump scare.
“Boo…!!“My heart nearly came out of my chest. I'd never been good with jump scares.
“You almost gave me a heart attack, Jesse.”
She laughed out loud, almost choked. Then she grabbed my head and held me.
“I miss you”She held me so tight, I hit her back to make her stopped her embrace.
“Can’t breathe”
“Ow.. Sorry. I forget you need to breathe” She released me, but still had my hand.
“Technically, we met yesterday.”
She smiled like a puppy.“but I didn’t see you last night.”
I rolled my eyes, couldn't believe what she said.“I was at home.”
“Too bad. That’s why I can’t see you. I didn’t know where you live” she snickered like a Cheshire Cat.
We walked together to the classes. We had different schedule, but still went to same direction. For this past few days, Jesse and I were getting closer. She was fun to be with and she said I’m fun to talk with. I totally got it. I’m not really good in talking, but I could say I’m good at listening.
“I stayed in the principal’s house.”
“Principal’s house? Don’t you stay in the dorm? You are a scholarship grantee, right?”
I nodded, “there’s no room left in the dorm. So, the principal let me stay at his place.”
She nodded, “well.. Lucky you. I heard the principal was hot”
I smiled proudly, but I could feel something I didn’t understand in my heart. It’s like a hurt feeling, but I didn’t know why.Maybe because what Jesse said, but I didn’t understand why it felt hurt. Alex was truly hot. She’s right.
She arrived at her class, so we separated. I walked more to my class upstairs.
The last class, Jesse and I were together again. We had same economics subject.
“For the next project I need you to make groups of two. Each group will have different assignments and I need you to put 105% effort since it will cost you 30% of final score. The projects will be submitted after a month.”
The lecturer spoke to us with his authority voice. Jesse who sat next to me poked my shoulder. When I looked at her, she said in whisper voice,
“You are definitely with me.”
I smiled to her and she looked at me with serious stare. In the other hand, I knew she was totally freaking out because finally she could spend time with me more than usual. If we’re not in the class, I expected her to jump up and down and clapped her hands. Thank God we’re in.
In the end of period, Jesse and I discussed our project on the park bench.
“I think it’s more interesting if we just take about economic history, about some people who are important to economic development in the world.”I thought about it and Jesse was right. Other topics looked less interesting.
“How about ‘The Commodore’, Cornelius Vanderbilt. He was the richest man in the 18th century, developed the railroads and shipping in North America. “Jesse nodded her head.
“That’s sounds good. I think the library has a good amount of research source about him.“
“I will search in the mansion’s library as well.”
“Wait.. Wait.. You have a library in your house?”
“Well, technically it’s the principal’s house, but yes. There’s a library in the mansion. I will ask him, and we can search the books relates to our project even in the weekend. Sounds fun?“
