"Where are your cowboy hats?" I asked Pierre and Charles when they met up with Evie and I at the airport in Austin.
"Daniel took them," Pierre said before they both hugged us. "Now did you bring the trophy?" He asked Evie with a smirk. Evie immediately pulled the large trophy out of her carry-on-luggage.
When Charles and Pierre went to Mexico to race, Evie and I competed in the Monaco charity competition. The same competition Elliòtt and I were in a year prior, the one that resulted in me ending the partnership, because he took the liberty of going on radio to expose my relationship with Charles. He was there this year too, and it felt really good to win that competition, knowing he was there to watch me.
The theme was to choose an era during the 1900's, and we chose the roaring twenties. For both the gala and the competition there were feathers and fringes. Ms. Dupont had made our costumes perfect, along with the dresses we wore to the gala the night before. Evie and I had so much fun, and it felt so good to win it and be able to choose where the money would go. We donated money to multiple charities for children.
Pierre looked at the trophy as if it was the first trophy he'd ever seen, he looked so proud, and I could tell on Evie's face that she appreciated it. She looked so happy. She looked happy whenever she looked at it, and she packed it in her carry-on for the purpose of showing Pierre as soon as we landed. She kept it on the table in front of her during the flight.
"Let me see," Charles said and took it from Pierre's hands. He looked at it and smiled widely before running his thumb over my name at the bottom of it. He handed it back to Evie before turning to me. "Toutes nos félicitations," congratulations, he said as he smiled and pulled me in for another kiss.
We started walking towards the car while Evie told Pierre and Charles about the weekend. They told them about some challenges we got to do for some sponsors' social media pages. She showed pictures of the costumes and the dresses even though they had already seen them through pictures from the event, and from watching the competition live online. They still acted like they hadn't heard or seen it before.
"We ran into Elliòtt as well," Evie pointed out. I sighed, because I hadn't planned on bringing it up. Last time we talked about him, Charles dragged me with him to Brazil.
"He was there?" Charles asked me.
"Yes, C really managed to piss him off at one point," Evie said.
"Why would you provoke him?" Charles asked, stopping to put the suitcases in the trunk, but he kept his eyes on me. He looked serious, so I realized that joking about it wasn't an option.
"What did you do?" Pierre asked with a chuckle.
"Nothing, really, he was just being dramatic," I shrugged before pushing Pierre out of the way to get to the passenger seat. I opened the door and hurried to get into the car, watching Pierre sigh and grunt as he got into the backseat with Evie.
"She called him out at the press conference," Evie said when we were all seated in the car.
"I didn't use his name," I immediately clarified.
"Well, they asked about your previous dance partner... you only have one," She replied.
"How do you know he got upset?" Pierre chuckled.
"I watched the press conference..." Charles muttered, "you didn't say anything that wasn't true," he pointed out. Which was true. I had only mentioned that there wasn't any trust between us, while there was a lot of trust and love between Evie and I which is why it works better to partner with her. I didn't actually say anything that would drag his name through the mud, but I don't think he agreed.
