Chapter 24: She Heard Me

~ Kenzie's POV ~
"Earth to Kenzie? You there?" He said. I snapped out of my daydream. I shook my head and closed my eyes. "Yeah, I am here." I said to him. I can't believe I just imaged that. "Sorry I just imaged something." I said truthfully. "Oh, okay." He said. He had a hat on and some black glasses on. "What is up with all this." I said pointing at his face. "I am on the run. I can't risk getting caught. This." He stopped and pointed at his face, "Is my disguise." He added. I nodded understanding him.

We enter to the air conditioned mall and it was packed. Teenagers were there, moms with their kids, Old people coming in and out of stores, people standing out of their stores getting people to try their free samples, people talking, people on their phone, people smiling, and people just everywhere. "Wow! Its pack." I said. "You took the words right out of my mouth." Austin said. We walk past the crowd of people. We go to Rue 21 first.

"How about this?" He said holding a hot pink shirt with the american flag on it. "I love that." I said, he smiled. I grabbed a white shorts to go with the shirt. "This and this?" I asked Austin for his opinion on the outfit I picked. "Yeah." He said. I turn right back around and looked through the rackets. Austin was right beside me. "Don't you want to look for clothes for yourself?" I asked him. "Nah. I would rather help you." He said, I started to blush.

"Aww! You two make such a cute couple." This old lady said looking at me and Austin. I was going to say something but Austin interuppted me, "Thank you." She smiled of joy and then she left us. I turn to Austin and slap him on his arm. "We are not a couple." I said. He just smiled, "It would be bad to ruin her imagination." He said with his very checky smile. "Whatever." I said.

We are in line to pay in the fifth store we entered. So far I have bought, we'll Austin bought was 7 shirts, 9 short, 3 pants, a necklace, an anklet, 2 sweat pants, 6 tank tops and 3 pairs of ear rings. He also bought me 2 pairs of shoes. I begged him to not to buy me all this stuff by he said if I don't accept then he will never let me out again. I had to accept his offerings. We are in Foot Locker. Austin wanted to but him some shoes and buy me shoes too.

"Next!" The cashier said. We walk up and she scans the boxes. She looks at me and then at Austin. "67.93" She said. Austin hands her a two fiftys and she looks at him and raises her eyebrows. "What?" He asked. "Nothing, you look like I have seen you before." She said as she puts the money in the register. "I think I have seen you on TV." She said as she hands Austin his change. "Oh." He said getting tense up. I think she is talking about when he was in the news for kidnapping me.

"Well, my boyfriend has never been on TV. You must have him confused." I said. I had to say a lie to keep him from out of jail. "He is your boyfriend?" She asked. Austin looked at me and said, "Yeah, I get confused with a lot of people. You must have mistaken me for someone else." He said going along. "Probably." She said. We grabbed our bag and head out of the store as soon as we could. "So... I am your boyfriend now." He said joking around. "I had to lie to help you not to get caught." I said. "I know and thanks." He said.

"Hey guys!" Someone said behind us. We both turn around and see Zach and Alex. They both have bags in their hands. "Sup." Austin said as they get closer. "When have you in been in here?" Austin said looking at their bags. "You been in here since a long time. We tried calling you but you didnt answer." Alex said. Austin pulls out his phone. "Oh, I had it on silent. Sorry guys." He said. They laughed. "Hey I am hungrey. Lets go to the food court and get something to eat." Zach said. "Damn son. We just ate breakfast." Zach said. "Which was at 11 it is 3:45 right now." Austin said. "All right let's go." Alex said. We all nodded and headed to the food court.

We sit at a table with our food from Wendy's. I got a spicy chicken sandwich. Zach and Austin got an original chicken sandwich. Alex just ordered fries. "Oh, how come you got just fries?" I asked him. "I am not that hungry." Alez said. I nodded. "Is that spicy?" Alex said. "Nah, I love spicy food." I said, Alex smiled.

~Alex's POV ~
"Nah, I love spicy food." She said. All I could do is smile. She reminds me so much of Sarah. She has the same eyes, same taste of style, likes the same the food, and have such a nice smile like her. She even likes spicy food, Sarah also liked spicy food. She could of been good friends with her. They are so a like. I really miss her. I want to call her but I don't know her phone number. I don't think she will ever forgive me for leaving her.

"Alex are you okay?" She asked. I snapped out of it. "Umm... Yeah." I lied. I am not okay. I haven't been myself in a long time. I know I haven't. I don't eat as much anymore, I don't talk like I use to, I fake smile all the time, I force my laugh out, I am more serious, I am not the Alex Constancio I was before. Sarah has changed me so much since she has left. I really miss her.

I ate my last fries and wiped the salt of my fingers on the napkins. I just sat there waiting for Zach to finish his chicken sandwich. "I will just take it to go." He said as he wraps it up and puts it back in the Wendy's bags. We all get up and throw away our trash. We head to the parking lot.

"Okay we will see you when we get home." Austin said as we head the our cars. "Okay bye Austin. Bye Kenzie." Zach said. I waved and walked on. I get in the driver seat and Zach in the passenger. He already put the bags in the back. I crank up the car and drove off.

~ Austin POV ~
I put her bags in the trunk and I hop in the driver seat, Kenzie is in the passenger seat. "So did you have fun today?" I asked her. "Yeah, I did." She said, nodding. "Thank you." She added and she touched my hand softly. Onced she touched my hand, I turned my head directly to her. "Oh, I am sorry." She said and took away her hand. "Oh, no. Don't worry about it." I said. "I kind of liked it." I mumbled. "Huh?" She said.

"Nothing." I said. Good that she didn't hear me. She interrupted my thinking and said, "It sounded like you said that you liked it when I grabbed your hand."

Fuck! She heard me.
