she avidly pointed at the midnight sky

and squealed

LOOK ,

a shooting star

he smiled at her oblivion

knowing

that a mere broken pearl she was asking him to look at

wasn't even worth a fraction

of her embodiment of heaven he was witnessing

looking at her heavenly smile

he enlightened her

saying

all my stars have already fallen for you .

I felt a wave of relief wash over me as he smiled at me.

He had made things less awkward for me after he found out I liked him. He didn't act cold or rude, but rather warm and kind. He tried to make me feel comfortable around him, and every gesture of his made my heart flutter. His soft voice and his soft brown eyes. They all drew me in deeper, making me fall for him harder.

We were lucky that no teacher came to the library while we were there. My heart was pounding with anticipation as I finally got the chance to ask Dhriti and Saara what exactly they did.

"Well," Dhriti began, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Since you simply refused to ever let your emotions known to him, we were sure he liked you. So, Saara took you to the washroom while I went up to Shivam and asked if Aadarsh has a girlfriend or likes anyone. He said he hasn't a girlfriend and no crush that he knows of. So later, I told him that you like him and to tell it to him."

I could feel my cheeks flushing with embarrassment as she continued. "And the rest, he took you to the library. Now you tell me what happened there," she asked excitedly, thinking he surely agreed to be in a relationship with me and that's why we went to the library to talk more. But that wasn't exactly the case.

I told her everything, my voice shaking as I recounted how he said, "You and I don't have a future." But even as he spoke those words, he was so careful not to let them hurt me. He cleared any awkward air between me and him and now I think I simply just like him more.

"What?" Saara asked in disbelief, her eyes wide with shock. "He really said that? He literally treats you so kindly. He never even shows any interest when Stuti tries to strike up a conversation with him."

"I only know that he has no interest in me and just considers me as a friend," I said, . "But you know what? I'm not that sad. I'm only glad that we got to talk so much longer and we are a little more friendly now. He shared some intimate moments of his past with me and we had a great conversation."

I could feel a small smile tugging at the corners of my mouth as I thought about our conversation. It had been nice to connect with him on a deeper level.

"Well, whatever works for you," Dhriti said with a gentle smile, her eyes radiating warmth and understanding.

"Don't worry," Saara chimed in playfully. "We'll both be your boyfriends - way cooler than him!" Dhriti nodded in agreement, her laughter ringing out like music.

I couldn't help but laugh along with them. It was comforting to know that I had such sweet friends by my side, ready to support me through thick and thin.
