he draped all the misery

in the smile he wore

he spent nights looking for himself

alone by the shore

the sea knew him better

all his frowns and the smiles

she caressed his bruised

and worn out feet

knowing he had walked

the cruellest miles

============================================================================

As our classes ended, all three of us headed for our vans. Divam approached us with a piece of paper in his hand. "Can you guys show me where this van is? I've just joined this one...and ma'am told me to ask you," he said.

Dhriti took the paper from him and glanced at it. It had the van's plate number on it. "Isn't it the same as yours?" she asked me, showing me the paper.

It was. The same plate number as my van. "Yeah," I said.

Our van used to park a little far away from the building, while Dhriti and Saara's vans were the nearest. So there was a very short distance I had to walk to reach my van.

"Well, our vans are here," Saara said, pointing at the vehicles parked nearby. "You can go with her. You have the same van as her," she told Divam.

It was a little awkward for me to be with him. Divam and I had only exchanged a few words before, but I still felt uneasy around him. I simply stared at Dhriti and Saara, wishing I could stay with them instead of walking with him to my van. It's not like we were strangers, but I wasn't as comfortable with him as I was with my friends.

"Shall we?" Divam asked, snapping me out of my trance. "Huh...oh...yeah," I said dumbfounded, as I remembered we had to head to our van.

As I was walking with him, I looked back at Dhriti and Saara. They waved at me and smiled, but I could see a hint of mischief in their eyes. They knew I was nervous and they were enjoying it.

"Is it far?" he asked, looking at me.

"No," I pointed at an oak tree that was in our sight. "That tree right there. You see the van standing by it? That's our van."

"Thank god. I thought it was somewhere far," he said.
