"Mommy!" a voice shrieked. "Mommy! Mommy!"
I fumbled my hand through my bed sheets. I aimlessly slapped my hand against the bed to try and find the remote.
Falling asleep with the TV on is my kryptonite. I always pay the price the next morning when I'm trying to sleep.
"Mommy! Mommy, wake up! It's time to play!"
Slapping my hands around the bed didn't help. My tired eyes fluttered open, and the tiny hands poking at my face, left yogurt — possibly soggy cereal bits — on my skin.
Oh, man! That's really gross.
"Good morning, mommy!"
I laughed, stretching my arms over my head, before the tiny bundle of grossness jumped onto my bed. "Good morning, mio angelo!" I exclaimed, plopping sloppy wet kisses along my daughter's cheeks.
More footsteps sounded through the hallway.
"Oh no. Did you wake mommy?" Jayden chuckled, holding our two younger kids in each of his arms.
"I'm sorry, daddy! I wanted to see mommy!" Valentina whined, snuggling against my chest. I don't care how old she's getting, I'll always want to hold her like a baby.
"Happy birthday, Speedy," Jayden smiled, dropping our two younger sons onto our bed.
"Thank you. What got you all up so early in the morning?"
"Troops!" Jayden exclaimed, lifting each of our children off the bed one at a time. "Why don't you guys get everything we got for mommy, then we'll bring her the birthday breakfast we cooked."
All three of our kids sprinted out of our bedroom.
Valentina is the oldest, so she takes on the maturity of an older sister. She's the perfect replica of Devyn. She's seven years old, and the announcement of my pregnancy turned into a celebration. Everyone was proud that Jayden and I waited until we were both done with college to have a baby. It was unheard of for the Hargrove women.
Valentina has the same voluminous blonde hair with dark hues that Devyn had. My hair could never get that much volume with a helping hand of hairspray. However, Valentina wakes up in the morning with a glorious poof on her head.
Originally, we wanted to name her Devyn when we found out she was a girl. However, holding her in my arms for the first time and looking into her eyes, I knew she was meant to have a different name. She was meant to be Valentina.
If Jayden and I have another daughter, then we agreed to name her after Devyn.
My two rambunctious little boys take after their father. They have the same dark hair and light eyes that he does.
