Getting used to Crescent Heights High School has been easier. I'm familiarizing myself with the different wings of the school, and the faster ways of getting to class. I've learned to avoid the science wing almost entirely. I only have one science class, so I use the back stairs in order to never see Devyn's smiling face behind a glass case.
Emi hugs me every time she sees me in the hallway. I don't need to be hugged every few minutes, but from Emi, I'd happily accept.
She doesn't need to show me around anymore, but she waits for me to go to the cafeteria every afternoon before lunch. Her and Parker may be inseparable, but she's my best friend, and I know she wants to spend time with me.
Except for today. I have other plans.
Seth met me at my locker before lunch started.
He assured me that we wouldn't get in trouble for being off campus. All seniors are allowed to go off campus for lunch, but most of them don't want to spend money on lunch. Most students stay with their friends in the cafeteria.
I got my things for the second half of the day ready before going out to lunch with Seth.
Looking down the hallway, the familiar dark hair of Jayden Russo draped in front of his face. He was looking down into his backpack, so I don't think he noticed me staring at him like a creep.
"Hey. Sorry I'm late. Ready to go?" Seth asked.
"Right on time! Where are we going?" I asked.
"Wherever you want. Somewhere quick, since we don't have much time," Seth said.
We hopped in Seth's dad's truck to get tacos. He drove us back to school to eat the tacos in the parking lot, instead of going back to the cafeteria. Seth ended up getting a large burrito, so that he could have some energy in him for hockey today.
Before we had an official chance to start talking, I got a text.
I know something you don't know.
Emilia Russo is the most cryptic human being on the face of the planet.
Emi is ten times smarter than I am on a good day. She's a genius compared to me.
She obviously knows a lot more than I do. Emi knows everything. That statement could mean anything. It could mean that she knows a difficult math equation, she could know that today is Monday, she could know that I have an unhealthy obsession with her brother, she could know that I'm going to have a pop quiz in Italian today.
The possibilities are endless. Endless!
I know very little, compared to Emi.
"Is that Jayden?" Seth asked.
