(Y/N)'s POV

Fighting two Colchis Bulls wasn't exactly on my to-do list today.

But then again, neither was finding out that Thalia's pine tree was poisoned which was what allowed the monsters to get into the camp.

There were about eleven of us in the border patrol. We were all armored up and ready to fight. Clarisse was in charge. Shocker, I know.

The bulls had broken past the barrier, and we were now fighting them on the hill next to Thalia's tree.

We've been fighting the stupid bulls for a while now. I don't know how much time had even passed.

The bronze bulls were the size of elephants, and they could breathe fire as well.

I dodged a blast of fire. I could probably use my dark mist powers, but I only wanted to use that if things started looking really bad.

As of right now, we aren't winning, per se, but we aren't losing either. Or maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic.

I heard Clarisse shout, "Border patrol, to me!"

That's when I realized that most of the border patrol people were running off as the bulls charged at them.

I cursed and hurried over next to Clarisse. Her armor was charred, and she was fighting with a broken spear shaft, the other end embedded uselessly in the metal joint of one bull's shoulder.

"You okay?" I asked her.

She glared at me. "Shut up!"

She whacked the bull's face pointlessly with the spear shaft. Naturally, it did nothing.

The bull breathed fire at us. I pushed her to the ground, to avoid the flames.

Clarisse shot back up and yelled, "Get into a phalanx formation! Hurry!!"

That was a good idea. The few of us who were listening lined up shoulder-to-shoulder, locking our shields to form an ox hide-and-bronze wall, our spears bristling over the top like porcupine quills.

Unfortunately, Clarisse could only muster seven of us campers. The other four were still running around with their helmets on fire.

Just then, I saw Annabeth running towards us. I would've smiled and asked where she had come from if we weren't being attacked by dumb bulls.

She taunted one of the bulls into chasing her, then turned invisible with her Yankees cap, which completely confused the monster.

The other bull charged our line, though. Bleh.

The bull moved deadly fast for something so big. Its metal hide gleamed in the sun. It had fist-sized rubies for eyes, and horns of polished silver. When it opened its hinged mouth, a column of white-hot flame blasted out.

"Hold the line!" Clarisse ordered us.

We nearly dug our feet into the ground, trying our best to stay rigid.

That's when I heard a familiar voice.

"Behind you!" Percy yelled. "Look out!"

Both Clarisse and I were startled by Percy's random appearance.

And that allowed the bull to crash right into Clarisse's shield, throwing all of us backwards.

I landed on a patch of unburnt grass, my shield completely crushed and useless. I never liked using a shield anyway.
