I struggled desperately, but I couldn't move. My mouth wouldn't open either. I just stared in horror as Percy turned into a guinea pig. C.C. had somehow prevented me from moving with a single flick of her wrist.
I watched as she brought Percy closer to her face. "Perfect! See, Percy? You've unlocked your true self!"
She held him up to the mirror. Percy screeched. "Reeet, reeet, reeet!"
"A guinea pig," C.C. said. "Lovely, aren't you? Men are pigs, Percy Jackson. I used to turn them into real pigs, but they were so smelly and large and difficult to keep. Not much different than they were before, really. Guinea pigs are much more convenient!"
It hit me who this woman was. I glared at her furiously. She noticed that and laughed.
"Don't worry, my dear. You shall soon meet the same fate as your friend." She moved closer to me and held Percy up right in my face.
He struggled, as if trying to escape from her grasp. Even though he was a guinea pig, I could see the fear in his eyes. He was begging me to help him.
But I couldn't move at all. No matter what I tried, nothing happened. Except...maybe...?
I furrowed my eyebrows and stared directly into C.C.'s, or Circe's, eyes. She gave an amused chuckle.
"Oh? What's that look for? There's nothing you can do to me, boy," she spat. "Now, I think I'll have Percy meet the other men." She looked over at the cage of guinea pigs in the corner of the room.
I could feel the dark mist dancing on my palms. Even if I couldn't move, I could control where the mist went. And I directed it straight at Circe.
She gasped when a cloud of dark mist covered her. "What on earth?"
I could hear Percy's joyous squealing. He knew what was going on.
There was a gust of wind and the dark mist was blown away, dissipating. Circe glared at me. "Was that you? You conjured that mist? How?"
She flickered a finger at me, and I felt my mouth loosen.
"Turn Percy back!" I yelled.
Circe glanced at Percy who was still struggling in her hands. "I think not, stupid brat. Tell me where you learned to control dark mist."
"I don't know, I can just do it naturally," I said. I looked at Percy, who continued to squeal.
"Reeet, reeet, reeet!"
Circe squeezed him tightly, cutting off his screams. "Be silent, or I'll squeeze even harder."
"Percy!" I shouted.
Circe looked me up and down. "Who is your godly parent?"
"Huh? I-I don't know! I've been undetermined all my life!" I really didn't feel like talking about this now.
"You don't know, eh?" Circe seemed amused by that. She loosened her grip on Percy, who started squealing again. She growled in irritation. "I told you to be silent!"
She threw Percy at the wall. "Reeeeeeeet!" he screeched in terror.
My eyes widened. "No, Percy!!" Without thinking, dark mist shot from my frozen palms.
