To say Steve was excited about his first official day at Stark Industries was an understatement; he was ecstatic, he was a little kid on his first trip to the candy store, and his mom gave him free rein. He had woken up early, headed to campus, hit the gym, and taken advantage of the shower since his water still wasn't turned on. However, he wasn't sure what to do about that whole mess. He knew it wasn't logical to stay in that apartment with no utilities because once his landlord found out, he'd get the eviction notice sooner rather than later, but he wouldn't let that damper his mood. He pushed the thoughts aside—that high excited first day of school energy lasted through the welcome breakfast, which was pretty amazing, a buffet-style continental breakfast.
Steve had never seen such a spread; there were fruits such as apples, bananas, melons, pears, and grapes, along with an assortment of berries, toast, donuts, muffins, bagels, giant buttery croissants, cereal, and pastries. In addition, there were a few light options: oatmeal, yogurt, and cereals; if you wanted something warmer on your stomach, there were waffles, pancakes, and french toast, all made by an attendant fresh right in front of you. Finally, there were juices, cranberry, grapefruit, apple, grape, coffee, and various creams and sugars to drink.
After breakfast, they were each given an official Stark Industries Intern ID badge, which was exciting if you asked Steve. This gave them access to the building and access to particular floors, as Steve understood the first several floors were business offices, then the next three were labs, he had yet to learn about the rest, but he knew Stark had a penthouse at the top. So it made sense that access was limited. There was even an entire daycare floor for Stark Industries employees to bring their children, they didn't get to tour, but Steve had heard another intern go on about how Tony Stark had the entire floor renovated when his child was born. There was a small cafeteria for the children, a kitchen, and a large room with cots and cribs for naptime, an even big room for playtime that included a ridiculous reading tree that the children could climb up inside onto the plush floor and choose from any of the books lining the inside of the tree, of course, there was a slide to get down. Stark even went as far as building an indoor playground with a foam floor and tall windows to allow as much natural light as possible.
Next, they were taken on a tour of the facility to the food court and Human Resources and shown all business floors, where breakrooms and restrooms were. Each floor's layout was similar; stepping off the elevator was a round desk, where a security guard sat with a receptionist; behind the desk was a wall, and you went left or right depending on whom you needed to see.
There were big closed-off offices for the head of Marketing, Finance, and so on; smack dab in the middle of the floor was a breakroom with a small kitchenette, several tables, a coffee machine expresso machine, a vending machine that had no your standard vending machine snacks. But sandwiches, small vegetable and fruit platters with dips, salads, various teas, and sparkling waters were all health-conscious. Off the breakroom was a small room with several couches, no windows or TV, and a heavy wooden door, a sign on the outside that read, "Please be respectful; someone is napping." Each floor also had a nursing room for mothers giving them privacy to pump, with plush armchairs and a tv; there was even a fridge where they could store their milk until the end of the day; only those who needed the rooms had access to them. The rest of the office space was an open concept or, as Phil Coulson, their guide, called it Embrace the Space.
