Aaron
*A couple of minutes before Arianne arrived*
"Gosh, he's such an asshole," Mom complained, sitting down next to me on the couch.
"Who?" I asked, knowing who she's talking about but still asked.
I guess some part of me hoped it wasn't him.
"Your father."
Notice how it's always 'your father' and never 'my husband'.
"Why?" I asked, letting out a sigh exhausted from this.
"He told his mom I'd go have dinner with her on Tuesday. As if I have time for that." She whined.
I frowned, "What's wrong with nana?"
"Nothing I just don't feel like seeing her,"
So why is dad an asshole then?
"You know if I never got married, I'd be living my life in Switzerland right now," She told me.
Good to know.
"Pass me a tissue," She pointed to the box of tissues on the coffee table.
I got up and grabbed the box and handed it to her.
"I said a tissue not the whole fucking box," She scolded, as she returned the box scoffing.
I heard her mutter "so useless," I knew she's talking about me this time.
So much for spending quality time with my mother. Every time. Every time I did it always ended with her scolding me or talking shit about my father and reminding me of how I am like him.
Growing up that's all I heard from her.
'You're so useless.'
'No one can rely on you.'
'You're such a disappointment.'
'If I never had you things would have turned out better for me.'
It was said too often to me that I just accepted it. Hearing words like that from my mom got drilled into my head. Especially when it was over small things.
*Present time*
I opened the door to find Arianne about to knock.
"How did you-"
"Don't flatter yourself, I was just leaving," I retorted out of frustration.
I didn't mean to sound mean, I guess mom really did ruin my mood.
"Right now? It's almost 12" she tells me, looking at the time on my phone.
"So?"
Arianne rolled her eyes, making me feel bad.
She was only trying to make conversation.
As she was about to walk in, I spoke up, "I'm sorry, I'm just really pissed right now. I didn't mean to put it out on you" I apologized.
I couldn't read her facial expression. I couldn't tell whether or not she's upset at me.
And then she spoke.
"It's alright," She reassured me. "What happened?" She asked.
I shook my head, "Nothing new, I'm just going to go on a drive," I told her.
She nodded, "Do you want me to come with?" She asked.
yes.
"N-no it's alright you don't have to. I just have to clear my mind."
