Arianne
I place my last bag into the trunk of Ella's car. It's five in the morning. I stay still in my place not being able to comprehend that the next destination is to the airport. Ella closes the trunk and places a hand on my shoulder.
"I just want to let you know, it was great having you here. Hopefully one day we see you again here." Ella said with teary eyes.
I can already feel the tears coming back. I cried so much last night as I told my friends goodbye for the last time. It was honestly the most gut wrenching thing I've ever had to experience. I couldn't stop crying even when I got home.
"Where's Aaron?" I asked her.
"He left late at night," Ella sighed as if she wasn't surprised by this.
Makes me feel like he's been doing this a lot lately. I can't help but wonder if he's going to do what he told me he'd do. He asked me to wait for him, and I will but I don't know what I'll do if he doesn't show up- even so if he does.
I get in the car with Ella and she starts driving. My stomach filled with butterflies- not the good kind. I am feeling very sick to my stomach. The tears stream back down my face. I don't want to leave. This is the first place I've ever felt at home. I don't want to leave. Its still dark outside which is making this even more depressing. Why is this so depressing. What the fuck did I think would happen when I'd leave?
Finally, we reached the airport. I close my eyes preparing myself to finally face this. I wiped my tears and got out of the car. Ella gets out too and helped me take out the bags from the trunk. She walks with me to the door and then she stops.
"This is it Arianne, I have to go." Ella spoke up.
I smiled at her before pulling her in the biggest hug. "Thank you for welcoming me into your house and treating me as your own," I thanked her.
"Of course, my love. Now I know you're going to have a bright future. Don't let this affect you negatively. You've experienced wonderful things here- especially with my son-"
My lips slightly part shocked, "you didn't think I was that dumb?" She laughed.
I am still in silence.
"My son- he loves you more than I thought he would. You're good for him. And I know whatever it is you guys are going through, you'll get through it. So stop dwelling on it, and start living. He'll come around eventually."
"Now, go- go make me proud- make your mother proud of the woman you've become." She finally says.
I still don't say anything.
But she doesn't wait for me to say anything before hugging me once again and then waits for me to walk into the airport. Once I do, I turn back and she's already gone.
Her words stay lingering in my head. Make your mother proud of the woman you've become.
Mom- she didn't see me graduate.
I push back the tears and start walking again because Ella is right. I did experience good things, and now I get to cherish them.
As I'm walking, I hear someone yelling my name. I glance over to see Lana running towards me, followed by Amy, Tessa, and Chase. My face lights up when I realize it's them.
"What the heck are you guys doing here?" I ask, totally surprised that they managed to make it at the crack of dawn.
They're all panting and out of breath, so Chase speaks up on their behalf. "Sooo... we... yeah... we planned... to be here... before you leave," he manages to spit out between gasps for air.
