AaronI pulled up to the drive-through window, glancing over at Arianne in the passenger seat. "What do you want?" I asked, already rolling down the window.
Arianne looked at me, confusion etched on her face. "Wait, I thought we were going home?" She asked.
I smiled at her. "I figured you'd be hungry," I said, shrugging. "At least I am" I tried to be casual about it.
Arianne grinned back at me, her eyes lighting up. "Yeah I'm starving, can I get some chicken nuggets?" I gave her a blank stare in disbelief, but I know better than to comment on that.
Her order is equivalent to my 5 year old cousin.
I nodded, turning back to the speaker. "Can I get a 6 piece chicken nuggets, and a chicken sandwich meal?"
As we waited for our food, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. Arianne hasn't been around for long but hanging out with her has been part of my routine. You never know what is going to come out of her mouth, or what else she has in mind to do—that of course you also have to do with her— I didn't mind it. I'm starting to really enjoy her company and part of me is glad Dylan was a dick. It was easy being around her, no pressure. I glanced over at her again, admiring the way the streetlights illuminated her face. When the food arrived, we parked in a nearby lot and dug in.
Arianne dipped her nuggets in the sauce that came with.
"This is so good," she said, grinning at me.
I chuckled, feeling a sense of satisfaction knowing I made her happy. Staring out the window, we ate in comfortable silence, enjoying the warmth of the car and the delicious food. Aria reached for another nugget and dipped it in her sauce. But as she was chewing, some of the sauce dripped onto her shirt. She tried to wipe it off with a napkin, but the stain had already set in. Without thinking, she licked the sauce off her fingers, and I couldn't help but feel a little bit nervous. I looked away from her to manage my thoughts. I mean, it was just a little bit of sauce, but something about the way she was licking her fingers was making me feel a little bit...distracted.
Not wanting to make things awkward, I decided to tease her instead. "So not only do you order like a kid, but you also eat like one," I joked, gesturing to the sauce on her shirt.
Ariane rolled her eyes, but I could tell she was amused. "Very funny, Aaron. I'll have you know that I'm a very healthy eater."
"This is just a break from my very real diet." She added
I laughed before stealing one of her nuggets, "nonexistent diet." Aria wasn't happy about that. I couldn't tell if it was because I stole her food or the diet joke. Either way, mission accomplished.
"Oh come on if you're that upset here" I handed her my burger to take a bite from it, feeling guilty that I was the one who made her upset.
She gave me a disgusted look. "Your saliva is all over it."
"Dude we literally just kissed" I frowned, offended.
She made a stop gesture with her hand, "don't remind me," she pleaded in a firm and slightly annoyed tone.
Ouch?
"I'm never kissing you again for your safety" I told her.
"Thank you," she placed her hand on her heart.
I just gave her a blank stare, very much offended.
As we finished our food, I noticed that Aria was still looking down at her shirt, trying to figure out how to get the stain out.
