At College Francoise DuPont in Ms. Mendeleiev's class, Ms. Mendeleiev pulled down the diagram of the Reproductive System.
Ms. Mendeleiev: Okay, so far, we covered half of the different systems of the body. Now, we will talk about the Reproductive system. Now you all know what this system is about, correct?
Kim: Is that where babies...
Ms. Mendeleiev: Yes, Kim. Please raise your hand next time.
Kim: Sorry.
Ms. Mendeleiev: (Points the pointer to the diagram) Anyways, the Reproductive System is where the tissues, glands, and organs are involved in producing offspring aka children. In women, the reproductive system includes the ovaries, the fallopian tubes, the uterus, the cervix, and the vagina. In men, it includes the prostate, the testes, and the penis. Remember these organs, everyone.
Alya: Ugh, how can we learn about this stuff without our parents giving us "the talk"?
Marinette: I don't know.
Ms. Mendeleiev: Now I know this system can be... very uncomfortable to learn about, but it's better to learn how each system works. Especially this system in the human body.
Chloe: Ugh. I'd rather not know about it.
Ms. Mendeleiev: You all know the term, "The Birds and the Bees?" *Max raised his hand. * Yes, Max?
Max: It's a euphemism for the facts and mechanics concerning human reproduction. The term the birds and the bees is often used to mean a talk a parent gives to a child concerning where babies come from. The origin of the phrase is uncertain.
Ms. Mendeleiev: Yes, Max, that's correct. It's about sex talk, well your parents talk to you about sex talk. Other systems in the body, such as the endocrine and urinary systems, work continuously to maintain homeostasis for the survival of the individual. An individual may live a long, healthy, and happy life without producing offspring, but if the species is to continue, at least some individuals must produce offspring.
Mylene: (raising her hand) Are you gonna show us a live birth video?
Ms. Mendeleiev: No, I'm not. That might be a bit graphic for you all.
