Chapter 1

*Y/N's POV*

I feel so lonely sometimes. I like being alone but i don't fancy being lonely. I live in California I'm 18 and yeah i have friends but sometimes it doesn't feel right to open up, i guess you never really know who you can or can't trust. The last time i opened up to someone she completely threw away our 7 year friendship for a 3 month relationship and she barely knew the asshole. That bitch was my ex best friend Lizzy. Im laying in bed right now listening to music and just contemplating life. Im so glad its summer, now i don't have to worry about school or the fake ass people that go to it anymore. High schools over hooray but now I'm being pressured to decide what i wanna do for the rest of my life when i don't even know what I'm gonna do tomorr-

"Y/N sweetie lunch is ready"

"Okay mom i'll be right there"

Well my mom just completely interrupted my thoughts ugh i need to get a lock for my room i have no privacy

(At the table)

Y/N-"mom can i get a lock for my room"
M-"no you can't because then you'll always lock yourself in there"
Y/N-"but i have no privacy i mean im changing and people just barge in whenever they want"
M-"no"
Y/N-" Dad please"
D- "your mom said no"

The rest of lunch was quiet this always happens its so annoying whatever my mom says my dad agrees like he's her puppy dog i needed to leave for a while and get out of my room environment because i know they can just go in whenever they want.

So i live in Santa Monica i love it because i can just walk along the beach whenever i want i live a block away. A couple weeks ago i came and i walked all along the shore and i found a little cave it's my special spot no one knows about it and I'm glad.
I could be here for hours and be care free just me.

*Nate's POV*

-"Hey Nate you need to lock up tonight i got a date"

Me-" a date? With who Sir?"

-"Haven't you heard the saying curiosity killed the cat"

Me- "Sorry Sir it slipped out"

-"Alright don't wait up for me"

Yeah i call my dad Sir i just can't call him dad anymore ever since mom-
I don't even like thinking about it but since that day dad hasn't been the same and neither have i. I feel so i don't know alone at times. We own a restaurant its called "Garner's Kitchen". Mom started this business when i was just a little boy it was breakfast and lunch. Now its only breakfast and late night drinking. If it wasn't for Nina this place would be a wreck. Nina was best friends with my mom before what happened...

"Hey kiddo would you mind helping with the dishes?" Nina asked.
"Sure" i said.
"Ugh i really don't understand your father he goes out with a different woman every night and they just seem to be getting younger and younger"
"That mans really messed up"
"Hey don't be rude you know this is really rough on him"
"Its makes no sense he closes the restaurant just to open it back at night and close it again at midnight"
"Nate c'mon its LA unexpected things like this happen here all the time...well see you at 8"
"Kay"

So now its 5pm i finally finished all the cleaning at the restaurant i hella need some help but dads too cheap to hire more people. Ugh i need to stop thinking of my dad and his problems for a while. I need a new job i can't keep working there and be around HIM all the time. Im in the Santa Monica pier now i like just chilling here watching the waves. The beach intrigues me its so relaxing i feel a natural connection. I need to find someone who-

"HELP! HELP!!"

I heard someone screaming and i saw a little boy drowning and it seemed like something was pulling him down i jumped off the pier and went to get him his foot was tangled in a net. I took out my pocket knife to rip it and swam us back to shore.

"Oh my god!" "Is he alright?!" "Everyone keep clear"

Everyone was rambling when i got to shore with the boy he looked around 8 years old. He wasn't breathing i gave him mouth to mouth and he gained consciousness.

"You saved my life" he said as he hugged me
"I just did what i had to do buddy"

Then a man in a bright red jacket and swim trunks arrived LIFEGUARD was written on his sleeve psht well he certainly wasn't doing his job

"Hey kid you did a great job how'd you like to have a job here"
"Really that'd be awesome"
"Great report here for training tomorrow at 10am sharp"

Well today was a good day now i don't have to be working with dad. I started walking along the shore and i wasn't paying attention where i was going and suddenly i bump into this girl.

*Y/N Pov*

Well it's getting late and i was starting to get cold so i was walking back home along the shore watching the sun setting i plugged in my headphones and started listening to Justin Bieber's song "Fall". Yes I'm a belieber deal with it. I know i live in LA but no i haven't met him yet I'm just not a lucky person. I was in my own little world i wasn't paying attention to where i was going and suddenly I fell on my butt on the shore and now I'm all wet ugh this is just great at least i have a water proof case yes my baby is okay.

"Oh my god I'm so sorry i wasn't paying attention to where i was going" he said

"Oh no its fine it was my fault i wasn't paying attention either"

"So i guess we're both in our own little worlds huh?"

I nodded and smiled man this guy was hot his abs were rock hard which were the main cause of my fall and his hair was just so perfect i wanted to run my hands through it and oh gosh don't get me started on his eyes they were blue I'm a sucker for blue eyes. Blue is my favorite color. Its like the ocean was in his eyes
Wait...did he say anything.

"Um im sorry i guess the fall got me disoriented what was that?"
"Im Nate what's your name?" He said
"Oh im Y/N"
"Well Y/N uh where are you headed?"

*Nate's Pov*

Y/N looked at me in confusion oh fuck shes probably gonna think I'm creep what do i do? What do i do?

"Um im just heading back home" she said
"Oh thats cool you live close?"
"Yeah i do" she smiled wow she has a gorgeous smile
"Well um i'll see you around i guess"
"Um okay see you around"

We went our own directions i was heading back home now i need to sleep for my training tomorrow.

Once i got home i called Nina and told her what happened at the beach today about saving the boy and having lifeguard training tomorrow she said she was cool with locking up and I started to get ready for bed.

I laid in bed and started thinking of Y/N. Why can't i stop thinking of her? Is she thinking of me too? I wonder what she likes. I really wanna see her again and get to know her. I know we just met but when i laid my eyes on her after i helped her up i felt my heart racing. I wanna see her again. I NEED to see her again. I slowly drifted to sleep with the thought of her.

*Y/N's Pov*

On my way home i stopped at a little shop there was a necklace on the window and it had a blue rock it was beautiful. It reminded me of Nate's eyes it was only $20 and so i got it. I got home and just went straight to my room i pretended to be asleep knowing my parents would come and check on me in these first 20 mins of me being home.

I just laid in bed now looking at darkness it was around 3 am...I'm guessing. I couldn't stop thinking of Nate ugh whats wrong with me i really wanna see him again but i don't wanna get my hopes up because i always end up disappointed. When we bumped into each other today and he helped me up i felt butterflies in my stomach i cant stop smiling right now i really wanna see him again. I NEED to see him again.
