Heart Like a Machine

Chapter 92

"The Ascension is where Londra is going to be taking Quen up into space and make his own world," I said to Seyka and Lis as we gathered together before the giant spaceship Londra made. "But once he lifts off from here, it will send radiation all over and kill everyone."

"How is he able to create such a thing?" Lis asked.

"By using the Horus to help him," I gestured to the entire thing we were in. "The Horus was capable of creating machines and anything you set your mind to. So with the power of the Horus, he's creating the spaceship to get out of here."

"To get out of here from what?" Seyka said.

I was about to answer, but the doors opened up.

"Hey! You're not going anywhere."

"Seems like Zeth caught up to us," I said.

"Time to take him out," Seyka said.

"Lis, you take the right side. Seyka, take the left, and I'll go down the middle."

Fighting our way through the Quen guards and officers, we finally came together on the platform Zeth was on. He was holding a new weapon I had never seen before. It reminded me of what the Zeniths had when they were fighting. With how it looked and formed on his arm, that's exactly what it was. A Zenith weapon.

"Watch out for his weapon," I told Seyka and Lis.

"What is it?" Lis asked.

"Zenith tech."

"You're dead!" Zeth said as he charged right towards us.

"Nope, just you," I said and knocked him down, causing the weapon to fly from his hands.

Being backed into a corner, Seyka walked over to Zeth.

"Where have you been taking the rest of my people?"

"Answer her question," I pointed my spear at Zeth.

"He takes his devoted to his park on the southern peninsula. But you'll never reach it. The tower there wards off any who try to approach."

"And my sister is there?"

"She was in the final group. I'm not supposed to take any more over."

"But, Walter promised to bring any of those who were devoted," the male Quen from earlier said, entering the hall.

"Londra has been using you to get what he wants. Let's face it, you're an easy mark. Too blinded by your own ego to see the truth," Seyka said.

He ran off, my guess to tell the others of Londra's failing. I let out a sigh as I walked over to Zeth's dead body, examining the gauntlet he had on.

"Alright, I need some answers from you," Seyka turned to me. "What is Londra running from?"

I looked over at Lis who nodded her head.

"I'll let you two have some time," she said and walked out of the Ascension Hall.

"What Londra is fleeing from, or he is supposedly fleeing from, is an entity called Nemesis."

"Nemesis?"

"Yes, but Nemesis has already been dealt with."

"How so?"

I took in a deep breath and tapped my Focus, showing her what Y/N looked like before she died and brought herself back to life.

"This is Y/N."

"Is that Lis' mother?"

"I-In a sense."

"What do you mean?"

"This is her, before she sacrified herself to get rid of Nemesis. She took the Zenith ship that was out in the Forbidden West and flew into space. Once Nemesis saw it was the Zenith ship, it followed her and into a black hole, ultimately ending Y/N's life. But Nemesis went with it too and they were both killed. Londra has yet to know that Nemesis is gone and we're going to keep it that way. If he gets wind that Nemesis is no longer coming to Earth, he will want to stay here and we don't want that."

"That's good to know that an entity isn't coming to Earth."

"Yeah and there's more I need to tell you."

"More?"

"I should have told you this from the beginning, but I could tell you were interested in me."

"I finally found someone who was like me and I wanted to hold onto that for as long as possible."

"I know and I didn't want anything to happen between us because," I tapped my Focus again and Y/N appeared, after she had sacrified herself and became a clone.

"Lis' mother, is my significant other," I said. "She was the one who gave me the ring."

Seyka stepped towards me, "Why didn't you tell me this from the beginning? Why make up a lie?"

"I didn't know if I could trust you at the time knowing that Lis and I were looking for the same person, but had different meanings to one another. She was looking for her mother while I was looking for my significant other. I-I didn't know how you'd take two women being married and having a child."

"Now I have to know how Lis was made."

I let out a sigh, "That's a very long story, but she was made from the DNA of Y/N before she died and my DNA."

Seyka paced the area for a second before stopping, her back facing me.

"Seyka," I stepped towards her, about to touch her shoulder.

"This entire time I thought you liked me back."

"I do like you, Seyka, just not like that."

"I-I'll report this to the admiral and then we can head to the park."

She walked out of the hall and I was left there. Squeezing my eyes shut, I turned and kicked the side of the railing.

"Shit," I whispered.

Reaching down, I grabbed the gauntlet and walked out of the Ascension Hall. Lis was waiting there for me.

"I take it Seyka didn't take it well," Lis said.

"She now knows the truth of your mother," I said.

"The truth was bound to come out eventually, mom."

"I know," I sighed. "I was just hoping it wasn't like this."

"You did the right thing. Mother would be proud."

I nodded my head, "Come on. Let's go get your mother before anything else happens to her."

I coughed here and there as blood splattered onto the ground. Londra was standing beside me before he knelt down, grabbing my jaw and making me look up at him.

"You're breaking. I can tell you are."

"Go to hell," I mumbled, since my jaw had been broken in different places.

"Nova, how did she react to the other test?"

"Negatively, Walter. Her mental stability is beginning to falter and it seems your hypothesis on using Aloy is proving to affect her immensely."

"Keep using that method. We're going to reach a breaking point soon enough."

"Walter, I'd advise against that."

"Do as I say, Nova!"

"Yes, Walter."
