Consequences can be worse than a nightmare for they can follow you even when you are wide awake.

When you least expect it, they can get you in their clutches and steal your breath away. You can leave in agony as much as you want, and you can spend as much time as you may need to convince yourself that you are prepared for the outcome that justly will come for you, yet consequences can still find catch you off guard.

Jiya had trained for years to become a masterful and capable individual. One who would not easily break under any pressure nor one that could falter before a pair of piercing eyes. Someone cunning enough to escape from any individual and solve any issue she might get caught in with her sharp thinking.

Reading the atmosphere and people alike, was something she had always taken pride in but it was also one of the things that had always kept her at an advantage with whoever was that she was to encounter.

She had built her thick skin and her strong mind for years. No one could easily get to her mind nor could succeed in penetrating her physically without breaking a sweat. She sure should have nothing to worry about, yet unlike any other missions she had gone through in her life, this one had a difference that was making her question the odds of her survival.

A disadvantage veiling over her heart rather than her mind. Her feelings for Jin that she had stepped on and ridiculed at this point, however, they still existed. Along with the guilt of twiddling with the life of an innocent man.

Jiya's eyes gazed at the clock placed at a small table near her couch, on which she was leaning with a drink in her hand and a half-emptied bottle standing on her table.

She allowed her gaze to return to the floor, as she felt a sense of relief that one more morning had found her like the one Jin knew and loved. A woman that she was not and hence one that could not keep him.

Nothing could undo her lies and she was aware of that, nor she could ever ask him for any forgiveness for that should come with repenting and a handful of regret. She sure was full of the second but she was not strong enough to throw all her career away, just for a chance to be forgiven by Jin.

She loved him. Certainly, this situation had placed her in the middle of a storm she was not expecting yet no love could ever be enough to take down her rationality.

Following orders was not always easy and she had learned that the harsh way by now. Yet in her line of work, the ones that don't question thrive. The ones that act with their mind for the sake of their superior and abandoned their feelings, will get recognised. Just like her father, Jiya too will get to stand in his shoes and accomplish her dream.

She was gonna become soon someone that could watch her father's portrait without feeling ashamed of who she was. Even though he was gone, Jiya knew that succeeding in this line of work was the only thing that could gift her the desperate need for her father's validation.

Wasn't it funny, however, that for her to get that, she had to become someone shameful in the eyes of another man that she had grown to care for?

"Life sure is a bitch." She mumbled under her breath as she took one more sip from her drink and proceeded to put it aside.

The sound of the doorbell ghosted around her as soon as the glass came in contact with the table and she flinched instantly for despite the fact that she had left the night behind her back, it was still way too early for anyone to be paying her a visit.

By the time she stood up, the doorbell echoed one more time, and she hurried to find her gun which she had left below one of the cushions of the couch, so she could have easy access to it if needed.
