Tw: mentions of suicide
~~Damien~~
The forest kept the beast inside him peaceful, it hated being kept indoors for too long. Damn thing got snappy when any door was closed.
Something smells good.
Something always smelled good. Creatures nearby, the dirt, the air, it commented on all of it. He paid it no mind, usually. It was a constant nagging in his mind, a reminder of what he was, now. A monster.
He was neither creature nor human, but an abomination inbetween. A twisted form of his old self that that died that night with the fangs that sank into his shoulder. He was tired... so tired. He remembered every mindless night, tearing at himself because he couldn't tear at Sebastian so nearby, and then hating himself the next morning for having the urge to hurt his best friend. He couldn't do this any more... he just couldn't. He was terrified one day the wolf would find a way through those chains and bite Sebastian, or worse.
He smelled them before he could hear them, the familiar scent of Sebastian coming to his nose. He must be searching him out again. But unfamiliar scents came to him as well, putting him on edge. He didn't know who they were or their intentions... was Sebastian following them?
He kept an eye out and eventually spotted them, his eyes widening at the sight of a familiar figure. Some old part of him shuddered in his chest, his heart crying out with joy at the sight of a familiar face.
He jumped from the ledge with an easy fall, rising to walk toward them. One of the women behind them gave him a wary look, the other more curious. Why were there women here?! It was dangerous!
Smells good.
Fuck, that's what it had meant. This was even more dangerous that he'd thought. He turned his attention back to Ominis, though his nostrils flared with the scent in the air. Admittedly it did smell damn good.
"Bonjour, Mon ami." He smiled, his usual suave self coming through with the gesture. "I am surprised to see you here at the end of my days."
"End of your days!?" Ominis said in alarm. "What do you mean by that, Damien?"
Damien gave Sebastian an accusatory look. "So he didn't tell you." Sebastian looked away guiltily, and Damien sighed in frustration.
"I am sorry, Ominis. Truly I am. But I am... done. I cannot do this any longer. So I have decided that this will be my last month." He said softly. He'd thought this through for many months... so it was easy for him to think about at this point.
"Last month?" Ominis said in a small voice. "What do you mean?"
Damien sighed in frustration. "After this next transformation, I will turn myself into the aurors. Let them do with me as they will. Knowing how powerful I am as a normal human I doubt they will be inclined to let me live." He looked away from Ominis at the pained expression he made.
What he wasn't expecting was the sudden grab at his jacket, and the forceful pull that had him stumble forward so Ominis' face was directly in front of his.
"YOU DAMN MORON!" Ominis yelled at him forcefully, taking him by surprise. He'd never heard Ominis speak like this before. "I WAIT FOR YOU FOR A YEAR, WORRIED SICK, AND YOU JUST TELL ME YOU'LL KILL YOURSELF?!" He shouted at him, shaking him a bit with his anger and frustration.
Challenge! Bite bite bite!
Damien tore himself away from Ominis with a low growl, taking a step back from him cautiously. He let out a deep breath, running his tongue over the lengthened canines that now always graced his mouth.
