Chapter 46: Going Home

I carry the whining Brooke into the kitchen late at night. I don't know why but she just woke up crying and clinging on to me, I think she had a bad dream.

Tobias was about to take her but I told him no, he and the guys stayed up all night packing everything and hanging out with Uncle Vido and Dad. Today is actually the day that we go home. So, we need all the rest we can get.

Once I step foot in the dim lit kitchen I immediately jump out of my skin. There sits Marilyn at the kitchen table looking through a photo album drinking who knows what.

"You know, you were always the innocent little girl in Bronx." She says looking at a picture of Sonny, Caleb and I. The picture we took together before we all went to the local park-the same day I found out my dad went to jail for nearly beating someone to death.

"Yeah," I say carefully not really understanding what she means, she may be drunk and talking about things she doesn't quite understand.

I grab some milk out of the fridge and warm it up. I give the bottle to Brooke and she instantly calms down and I hesitantly sit down at the table.

"I didn't think that you was going to get pregnant at the age of sixteen. But, I guess that what happens when you get older. You get faster with everything, more boys, being popular." She says and I start to rock Brooke softly raising my eye brows.

"What do you mean by all of this, yeah I got pregnant at sixteen. Accidents happen, just look at your life." I say and just then I regret what I said.

She stands up. Angry.

"Well, then at least I wasn't a little slut at the age of sixteen." She says and I gasp

"Marilyn, where is all of this coming from, your drunk. Whatever you are and you're angry for some reason, I am not a slut. A slut is someone who sleeps with more than one person, I am for one not a slut." I say quietly realizing that I am holding a child.

"Yes you are!" She exclaims.

"Marilyn your nothing but 36, Sonny is about to be 18 you were nothing but 18 when you had him. Still a teenager. Marilyn I thought we were closer." I say tears gathering in my eyes. I shake my head and put the bottle back up and leave with Brooke who is now sleeping. I can't believe that just happened.

After getting dressed this morning I make sure I have everything straight. I have on a pair of acid wash high waist jeans with cuts on my upper thighs, I have on an Adidas sweatshirt with numbers on the sleeves. My hair is in a half up half down ponytail. I have on light make up with red lipstick and red timberlands. Gold piercings and a gold chain.

I grab all of our bags and take them upstairs to the living room. It's sad to say we are leaving after all of the fun but we have to go, I had so much fun I just wish it didn't end the way it did.

"Oh I'm going to miss all of my babies! Especially you!" Aunt T says crying says giving Uriah a pinch on the cheek and a then kisses it. Uriah blushes. My 'Aunt' is attractive to be close to her forties.

"Gee thanks." All the boys complain and she smiles giving them the same treatment and then takes Brooke out of my arms.

"I'm going to miss you, hopefully we see each other soon!" Sonny says giving me a long hug. "Like, spring break or something." He says

"Yeah." I say.

"Sorry for what happened this morning. My mom was uh drunk." He says "That's why she stays in rehab centers most of the time." He says it was only a bit of liquor so she must have been talking from a clear mind.

I shake my head at him.

"It's okay." I say

"No, it shouldn't have happened." He says and I nod.

After I left the kitchen I walked past Sonny who saw me upset and I didn't even realize I walked right past him. He talked to her while I talked to Tobias after I put Brooke down.

We wave at our family as we drive away in the car eating left over breakfast food from this morning.

Time for another boring, long, painful, 13 hour journey back to Chicago.
