Chapter 3

“Have you made up your mind yet?” I’ve been pressing Laurie on going out with Susie and I tonight. The more that I ask, the more annoyed she gets. It’s really funny to tick her off. The tips of ears get all red and her nose scrunches up a little which reminds me of a cute little bunny rabbit.

“Well,” she paused for dramatic effect. “Why not?”

“We’re gonna have so much fun! Let me call Susie and tell her. Wait, can I call her? Is that okay?”

“Hold up a second. I’m only going on one condition,” my smile drooped when I saw the smirk on Lauires face.

“Does it have something to do with a certain guy who’s name starts with an S-”

“And ends in -pencer? Why yes it does,” she grinned like the creepy Cheshire cat.

“What is it?” I asked slightly afraid of what she would make me do. If it was too extreme, it was going to be completely out of the question. I just met the guy! I don’t want him to think that I’m some creepy psycho stalker. Which I am not!

“I’ll go if he goes,” she nudged me as we walked down the sidewalk next to a busy street with shopping bags from the jewelry place that we had to go to earlier in our hands. “You have his number right?”

“How’d you know?! Are you creeping on me now?”

“Uh, no don’t flatter yourself. When you came back from the work room that was in the wrong department, you were blushing like crazy. I just figured that you and Spencer hit it off well.”

“How can you just assume that it was Spencer? I’m sure there are a lot of other gorgeous guys in his department.”

“Not very many,” she shook her head. “Plus, you’re the new girl. You’re not immune to his looks yet. Therefore, you’re easily flustered by him.”

“I am not. I rarely get ‘flustered’.”

“Oh shut up and just call the boy.” I narrowed my eyes at her and she did it right back, challenging me. “Do it or you’re fired.”

“Can you even do that? Is that allowed?”

“What do you think there’s some type of rule book on how to treat interns? There isn’t. You have to do whatever I want you to do or you’re fired.” She smirked evilly. Why are the blondes always so mean and pushy? Every single blonde that I’ve met has had their moment where they were terribly controlling and pushy. “Personally, I think you should call him. Kerri you’ve got nothing to lose girl.”

“Except my job,” I muttered fishing around my purse for the piece of the paper that he wrote his number on.

“Yeah, except for that,” she laughed. I opened the door to her car and slid in. “Call him! Call him now!

Cautiously, I pushed all seven digits on my phone and pressed the talk button.

It rang and rang. “He’s not going to answer,” I told Laurie. Just my luck, his voice met my ears.
