Chapter one
I strolled down the street, the air alive with chatter, while Taylor and Lucy trailed close behind. Taylor's laughter prompted a gentle shove from Lucy. They conversed among themselves, but their words were lost to me as my attention was scattered, resting on everything but them. "How about you, Ellie?" Lucy inquired, yet my gaze had already been captured by a gathering crowd.
The streets are always buzzed with activity, not the usual hustle and bustle of the city streets; but crowded streets, a block of people that is clogging the streets holding signs and chanting various slogans. "What are they hiding out there!" "Let us out!" "Free us!"
Not that I give a shit, what's the deal? I've only ever known this city, and generally the outside hasn't really, called me. Why bother? I have too much going on within these walls why should I care?
"Why do they want to leave anyway?" Taylor said but I continued to walk over to the crowd.
"They can't keep us here!" he yelled as the people yelled in agreement, i wanted to get closer but i bumped into an guy "we are done hiding!"
"Oh I'm sorry" i apologized to him. trying to look at his features but he turned his head and spoke quickly.
"careful" he spoke making me look at him confused.
" We are going to be late" lucy said making me look at lucy and Taylor before looking back the man. but Taylor drew my eye.
"Ellie!" Taylor yelled "its seven o'clock, time to go" Taylor sighed in frustration, I looked back to the man to see he was gone. I didn't understand what the hell just happened.

I sighed walking down the halls of the hospital to the front desk where my friend lucy and Taylor worked; this wasn't the dream job I intended; I enjoyed working as a training nurse at the hospital. I loved helping people, but I feel like I wanted to be more, do more for my city.
"Hey girl, want to get drinks later tonight" my best friend lucy asked making me smile.
"You know we aren't supposed to" i smiled at them as their smiles grew.
"Yes, come on it will be so fun" Taylor said. making me laugh
"Okay, okay" I sigh rubbing my eyes. as they giggled."Hey what's up" lucy asked sliding her chair over next to me and Taylor also pulled one.
"I just haven't been feeling myself, and i have writers block on top of that" i sigh as she rubbed my back, i loved to write stories in my free time, it was the other thing that made me happy so i took a side job to write the city news stories.
"Hey, you know what would cheer you up?" lucy smiled making me look at her
"Drinks" she said making me roll my eyes.
"Alright" i laugh as she giggled.
"I got to use the bathroom I'll be back" Taylor said. making me nod as i looked at Lucy.
"i should probably change into something nicer than scrubs" i smiled making lucy return one.
"Oh, let me grab my jacket" lucy said as i made my way to the bathroom quickly changing into a blouse and jeans, that's all i had in my bag. as i waited for them, i grabbed my coffee and went to fill it up, when someone bumped into me making me spill it on my blouse.
"What the hell" i say as they were speed walking down the hall, they had their hood over their head and i couldn't see their face.
"Asshole" i say.
