Ellie Pov

this place was nice but i didn't trust it......they said this place was safe from the biters forever. Everyone lives in one big building.

There's a medical wing, cafeteria, rooms that each family stays in. they kept me in the medical wing for further tests that a different doctor did, because of my feelings about Doctor Rose.

But today i could finally stay in a room, i was going to stay with Ryder.

I couldn't help but think about Dean, how could he. But at the same time, I should have known. He would always do that to me. He cared about one thing and one thing only. And that did not include me.

I felt a tear fall down my cheek.

"Ellie" a voice said making me turn to see Carrie, my smile widened and i whipped my tear quickly so she wouldn't see.

"Carrie" i smiled hugging her.... finally feeling happy again. but it didn't last long as my thoughts filled with Dean again. my smile faded softly. 

"Hungry?" she asked making me nod.

We walked to the cafeteria, I looked around to see all these people had scars, battle scars. Some still healing, their hearts still healing, some people i recognized from my city. but i knew there wasn't many people that got out. 

"Ellie, oh my god" Lydia said getting up looking in shock, "we....... we thought you were dead" she smiled a bit.

"It's so good to see you again" Liam said hugging me, he looked so much bigger and stronger. i couldn't help but feel emotional, he hugged me tighter making me smile at Carrie on how cute her kid was.

"Hey um" Ryder smiled knowing he already saw me making me roll my eyes as he kissed me making Lydia look down, but the kiss seemed wrong, rushed, not the same we shared before. Cold instead of warm. 

"This is -" Carrie spoke before i cut her off as i made eye contact with someone id never thought id see.

"Ben" i smile pulling him into a hug as he hugged me tightly. i moved from him to look at him. he looked different then when i last seen him. 

"i thought id never see you again" he smiled at me making me return one. i was so happy to see him. 

"Let's eat '' Carrie said making me sit down next to her and Ryder sat closely next to me. I looked at our group, we aren't the same. There's not much of our group left. We are like family. And it hurts to let others go. they are the first people i survived with. and i feel safe with them. 

"So, what happened" Lydia asked making me look at her.

"Lydia" Carrie looked at her. like she knew something i didn't. 

"What I'm just asking" Lydia said

"It's okay" I smiled at Carrie then looked back at Lydia "what do you want know?" i ask drinking my water.

"Where's Jennie?' she asked making me sit my water down as i sighed "isn't that why you left, to look for her.......but you're here and she's not" Lydia expressed her emotion, Jennie meant a lot to Lydia, to all of us and not just me.

"Shes-" i couldn't get words out because i didn't know making Lydia give me a look.

"Where's your partner? He dead too" Lydia said making Carrie look down "from what i notice everyone you love seems to die around you, including your boyfriend that doesn't seem to be here" we all jumped at a fist hitting the table, i look over to see Ryder get up and walk away.
