Chapter 2

I gently opened my eyes, only to realize I was in an unfamiliar apartment. Fear gripped me, and I sat up quickly, just as a voice reached my ears, prompting me to turn around.

"I'm not going to hurt you," Ben assured, prompting me to rise from the couch.

"What happened?" I inquired.

"The explosion, it broke the wall. Everyone is trying to leave because it's no longer safe. People are panicking, inflicting harm on others, it's like—" He paused, cradling his head in his hands as he slumped on the couch.

"How did that even happen?" I pressed, bewildered.

"Someone... something, I don't know, Ellie, but now, people are—" He halted, his gaze meeting mine, tears evident in his eyes. "My father, he attacked me, but it wasn't him..." he began, his voice breaking, prompting me to sit beside him in an attempt to offer comfort.

"What do you mean it wasn't him?" I asked, as Ben stood up from the couch, struggling to steady his breath.

"It just wasn't him okay!  ......he wouldn't do it.......he couldn't do it" he sighed making me look at him with pity.

"Maybe he-" I tried to find an explanation that would help ben "did you make him mad, maybe it's the stress-" he stopped me.

"No Ellie, my dad couldn't do it" he started making me just look at him waiting for him to continue.

"My dad hasn't been able to move or speak in the last year, but he got up, ran and punched like he was in his twenty's again, he even spoke to me" ben looked scared as tears filled his eyes "Ellie I don't think it's just something that can easily be explained, we have to leave this city" he said looking at me as he cried to me.

"I need to see my family; I need to make sure they are okay" I say to him getting up.

"No Ellie you can't go out there" ben told me making me look at him.

"They are my family ben, and I'm not leaving them" I opened the door and left, I didn't know where my house was from here, but I was sure I could figure it out.

"Wait!" ben yelled out, walking out of the door to catch up to me.

"I'll take you, it's not safe" he said, making me nod and give him a smile, thanking him.

As we rushed to my parents' house, I saw people running in the streets hurt and crying, it made me feel sad, and missing my family even more, I just need to know they are safe and hopefully my dad knows what's going on, since he works for our government, id like to think he knew a lot of things. my dad had his secrets, but i don't think he could lie about something like this.

"Please for your safety lock your doors and stay inside, this is a national curfew, anyone found outside of their homes will be killed, i repeat for your safety lock your doors and stay inside, this is a national curfew, anyone found outside of their homes will be killed" the intercom said repeating as people rushed to get to their homes, i was being pushed around making me feel anxious, I didn't know what was going on, i just needed to get home to my family. Something weird has been going on, I pushed around, and my hope rose as we arrived at my parents' house, I got out and ben stopped me for a second making me look at him.

"Stay safe, i have a gas station up ahead, I'll be there if you need anything" he smiled making me smile back.

"Thank you, ben, let me know if you hear anything from lucy and Taylor" I say to him making him nod.
