Yvaine's POVSuccession ceremonies like these are rare and special, turning ordinary days into something extraordinary. But here in our realm, time works differently compared to the human world. I wonder how they see time passing. Maybe for them, the festivities might seem like they'd go one for months rather than a few days. It's fascinating how beliefs, coordination, and the rhythm of life shift whenever I venture beyond our watery domain.
As I travel between land and sea, the stark contrast between the swift tempo of the human world and the unhurried cadence of our underwater realm becomes even more apparent to me. It's this very difference that often makes it difficult for me to form deep connections on land.
As I head back up to my room I run into Alaric, Guardian of the Baslik Domain. My betroth for the past millennia.
"Congratulations, Princess," he gracefully curtsied and planted a gentle kiss on my hand. Alaric exuded refinement and poise, almost to the point of seeming severe. He possessed strength and confidence, yet he was also direct and straightforward, qualities befitting his role as a guardian.
My mother believed that the union between the Seraphine and Baslik Domains through our marriage would benefit the realm, ensuring its stability and ensuring balance, as Alaric and I were complete opposites. Arranged marriages were customary in our realm's culture, especially among guardians and royals.
"Thank you, Alaric... It brings me one step closer to fulfilling my duty to the realm," I chuckled hesitantly.
"No doubt, you will make an exceptional queen and remember I am at your service, I will be here to support and assist you," he swiftly guided my hand into a twirl, pulling me back into his embrace, causing a blush to rise to my cheeks.
"The realm is truly fortunate to have you as their future queen, Yvaine," he spoke gently before returning to his composed stance.
As the conversation continued, Alaric maintained his composed demeanor, his stoic expression revealing little of the emotions that surely brewed within. It was a rare glimpse into the depths of his guarded nature.
"Yvaine," he began, his voice steady and measured, "I must admit that in your absence, a void forms within me. I find myself longing for your presence whenever you depart for Hogwarts."
"Yes, Alaric," I replied, acknowledging his unspoken struggle. "We both have duties to fulfill, and I appreciate your unwavering commitment to our shared path."
A subtle nod was his only response, the acknowledgement of our mutual understanding. We both knew that discussing our emotions openly was a rarity, a vulnerability that felt uncomfortable for him. And yet, amidst the silence, a sense of connection and loyalty lingered.
"As you journey through your studies and new teaching position at Hogwarts," he continued, his voice composed, "know that my thoughts remain with you. I stand steadfast, awaiting your return, ready to serve and support you in the roles destiny has bestowed upon us."
I could sense the depth of his commitment, the unspoken promises that resided within his restrained words. It was a testament to his devotion, despite his guarded nature.
"Thank you, Alaric," I responded softly, a mix of gratitude and understanding in my voice. "I, too, look forward to our reunion knowing that your presence will be a steadfast anchor in the midst of my obligations."
With that, we exchanged a final nod, each understanding the complexities of our bond. The unspoken emotions remained submerged, locked away in the depths of our beings, as we parted ways, destined to navigate the intricate dance of duty and affection that lay before us.
