I rummaged through the cluttered potions closet, desperately searching for the precious gillyweed we had in stock. The impending visit of four wizards to the underwater realm had sent me into a frenzy. I wondered how my mother would react and if she would grant them entry. Overwhelmed by my racing thoughts, I let out a sigh of frustration.

"Eye of newt... Dragon's breath... Ugh, troll boogers," I muttered to myself, frustrated by the disarray of the shelves. "I thought Sebastian was going to organize this mess," I grumbled under my breath.

Suddenly, a pair of hands gently landed on my waist, startling me. I turned to find Sebastian standing behind me, his presence both comforting and electrifying. His hands, strong and steady, sent shivers down my spine.

"Calm down, love. I was just steadying you. Almost stepped onto nothing there," he said with a kind smile. "And I swear, I was getting around to organizing it."

I let out a frustrated huff, then explained, "I'm looking for gillyweed... We'll need it for where we're headed." His puzzled expression prompted me to roll my eyes playfully. "Come on, Sebastian, mermaid castle... underwater," I said, emphasizing the obvious.

Sebastian's face lit up with understanding. I continued to explain that we might need to modify the gillyweed to ensure its effects last longer underwater. Our alchemists should be able to create something similar and more enduring. This visit would be unprecedented for both wizards and merfolk alike. After a long conversation, Sebastian appeared slightly overwhelmed but excited for the journey ahead.

"I still can't get over the fact that you're a princess," he continued, his voice filled with awe. I smiled at him, unsure of how to respond to his admiration.

"I know... it's a lot to take in, especially when I think about becoming Queen one day. There's a whole ceremony and a rite of passage for my powers to fully come to fruition, just like they did for my mother and the other queens," I said, my words carrying a hint of hesitation.

His curiosity piqued, he asked, "When will you become the next Queen?"

I chuckled softly. "Oh, not for a while. I still have 500 more years to go," I replied nonchalantly then regretting the statement immediately.

"Excuse me? What do you mean, 500 years?" he exclaimed, disbelief coloring his expression.

I blinked in surprise. "Umm... we become Queen on our 3500th birthday," I explained, taken aback by his reaction.

"You're 3000 years old?!" he exclaimed, his eyes widening and his jaw dropping. "Oh my... Merlin.. !" Sebastian seemed on the verge of losing his balance, nearly stumbling over a stack of books.

"Sebastian, are you alright?" I asked with concern, reaching out to hold him by the shoulders as I looked up at him.

"Yvaine... I wasn't even alive three decades ago... and you... I mean... I'm just a blip in your timeline, aren't I?" he finally managed to say, his tone tinged with humor but defeat. His body language shifted, becoming more closed off.

"What do you mean? Age doesn't matter to me," I said earnestly, searching his eyes for understanding. "Your friendship means the world to me, Sebastian. It would hurt just as much if anything were to happen to any of you. Our bond is what matters, not the years that have passed."

He looked away from me, his expression filled with pain and resignation. He moved away from my touch, creating a physical distance between us. "In a few hundred years... I will be nothing, while you remain the same... and to dust I shall return," he murmured to himself, his voice laced with a mix of sadness and bitterness.
