A Quiet Life by Marco BeltramiYvaine's POV
As I delved into his mind, the room around me began to whirl and transform until I found myself engulfed in complete darkness. A chorus of voices reverberated, merging into an eerie and almost paralyzing symphony.
I stumbled forward, shrouded in this sightless void. "I can't see anything," I stammered as I navigated through the labyrinth of Sebastian's thoughts. Thankfully, Ominis could still communicate with me to some extent. The darkness seemed to be a consequence of the Nulla Intrusio tattoo.
"You still have your other senses. Focus on those," he suggested.
I endeavored to steady myself and began to attune to my remaining senses. Could I taste anything? No. Could I feel anything? No. Could I smell anything? No.
Then, amid the cacophonous echoes, a distinctive sound emerged—a child's cries, filled with fear and distress.
Carefully, I advanced toward the source of the sound, still blind to my surroundings. Gradually, everything shifted, and I found myself immersed in a vivid memory. It was nighttime, the chorus of crickets providing a backdrop. Each step I took brought the sensation of walking on grass, and as I continued, I began to discern distorted, muffled sounds. These sounds gradually clarified, revealing that I was entering a hamlet.
"I believe I'm entering a house, heading towards it... Yes, it's a house. I see Solomon conversing with someone outside," I relayed to Ominis.
As I entered the house, I discovered a young girl and boy in the living room, tightly holding each other, their faces marked by profound sorrow. The boy was clearly trying to muster strength for the girl.
"I believe it's Anne and Sebastian... the night their parents passed," I solemnly recounted. "He carries the weight of believing he could've done more to save them."
"They were just children, Ominis. But the burden he bears, the anguish he carries every day, is incredibly heavy," I added.
The memory shifted, and my surroundings transformed into the Feldcroft Catacomb. This memory was all too familiar to me.
Almost instinctively, I sprinted into the catacomb, arriving just in time to witness Sebastian casting the Avada Kedavra curse at Solomon.
My heart shattered, just as it had the first time I experienced this memory. Our younger selves were forever altered, forever scarred.
The look on Anne's face, filled with a mix of contempt, disappointment, anger, and heartbreak all rolled into one.
"He'll never forgive himself. Nothing will sway his resolve, not even Anne," I said, still immersed in his mind.
Yet another shift in memory, and I found myself back on the battlefield. This time, I was not observing from the outside; instead, I was immersed in that crucial moment on the battlefield of the Leviathan Domain. I was trapped in the actions, unable to move away as Sebastian drew nearer and nearer.
"Well, hello there, my dueling partner," I repeated, just as I had in that initial encounter. And just like before, I couldn't blame him for what he did next. His eyes betrayed a mix of fear, torn between resisting Morgana's command and trying to prevent me from causing harm to everyone.
A scream tore from my lips as I felt the dagger strike me once again.
"Yvaine! Can you hear me?" Ominis's voice echoed throughout the memory. "Yvaine!"
The memory shifted once more as I pulled the dagger out, and it dissolved in my hand.
Then I heard the voice of the crying child again. With slow, cautious steps, his mind shifting our surroundings, I moved towards his home, only to find it empty. The scene inside was one of disarray. The crying and whimpering grew clearer and less distorted as I approached a door. Behind it, I discovered a young Sebastian, huddled in a corner, cowering in fear.
