Yvaine POV
Sebastian and I both lay still at Anne's home, our breaths still labored, for the rest of the day. All we could do was wait and see if my efforts had been successful. Legilimens, the kind Ominis had worked with in the past, had reported that this type of skill took a great toll on the wizard or witch implementing it.
I woke up to the sensation of Ominis gently stroking my head and removing a damp towel from my forehead. The aroma of dragonfire chili filled the home, and the spicy scent cleared up my sinuses and relieved my headache almost instantly.
"How are you feeling?" Ominis asked, kissing my knuckles and holding my hand.
"Like I've battled another ancient guardian," I replied with a chuckle. I turned my head to the side and saw Sebastian lying there, still unconscious.
"Nothing yet, but this is a normal reaction. We won't know anything until... if he wakes up," Ominis admitted.
"He should, hopefully... I was able to destroy the remnants of the curse," I said, my head aching as I tried to remember the details of what had transpired.
"Also, you two were awfully adorable your first year at Hogwarts," I added with a stifled giggle.
Ominis's eyes widened, and a grin played on his lips as memories of their youth flashed before his eyes.
"I saw a lot of his memories, many treasured ones, including you..." I said, reaching up to caress his face.
"Did you now?" He replied with a mischievous glint in his eye.
"Yes, and you two were quite the troublesome duo. Sneaking out to steal chocolate frogs from Honeydukes," I continued, laughing as Ominis wore a guilty expression.
"That was all Sebastian!" He exclaimed. "And they were getting close to expiring. If anything, I was helping with inventory maintenance."
"I tried not to pry too much. I didn't want him to feel violated," I admitted.
"I'm sure he won't think much of it. Once again, you saved his life and all," Ominis mused with a smile.
Later, after we had finished supper and spent the evening chatting, everyone else retired to their beds. I chose to remain seated next to Sebastian, who was still peacefully asleep.
It was a relief to see him calm, free from the nightmarish sweats that had plagued him before.
I stayed awake for a few more hours, engrossed in my reading. To my surprise, I discovered a collection of herbology books tucked underneath Sebastian's bed. I wondered if these were the ones he had mentioned earlier.
As I delved into the pages, learning about water lilies, Sebastian began to stir and groan, gradually waking up. His eyes scanned his surroundings drowsily until they landed on me.
We didn't need words. Instinctively, we reached for each other and found solace in each other's arms.
I pressed a gentle kiss to his temple while holding him close, my sole desire being to shield him from the inner demons and self-deprecating thoughts that haunted him.
I longed to safeguard his soul from the scars of this world.
We shared tender kisses, a delicate reunion since our connection had taken on a different facet.
Gradually, the memories of our encounter began to resurface. I climbed into bed with him and pulled him close to my chest.
His grip tightened around my waist as I softly stroked his hair.
Eventually, he drifted back to sleep, but I remained awake for a while longer, vigilant in case anything dared to disturb his peaceful slumber.
