"laila, are you joining us for dinner tonight?" mom smiled, watching me appear into the room. "yeah, i didnt plan on going anywhere tonight" i spoke. "well then have a seat" mom nodded.
"let me get changed, and then i'll be right down" i politely smiled, before excusing myself to change out of my uniform and into some comfortable clothes.
when i returned, my stomach started twisting. today was the day i was gonna break the news to mom, dad, and ruby, that i was moving.
i didnt think my parents would be too bothered by it since thats one, well two less people in the house, and it might be cheaper too. rue was gonna be the disappointed one though.
"how was work?" dad questioned, as i took my spot at the table. "it was good" i nodded, dishing up the food that had just come out of the oven.
"where's slash?" rue questioned, noticing we were missing someone. "at the studio" i smiled. "but uh i actually have some news for you guys" i added, avoiding eye contact.
"you're not pregnant are you?" mom asked, eyes widening. "no, no, i'm not pregnant" i laughed, rolling my eyes. "so what is it then?" dad questioned.
"uh i'm moving out..." i awkwardly smiled. "no! you cant!" ruby frowned. "where are you moving to?" mom asked, setting down her fork. "slash and i got a place just by the sunset strip" i shrugged.
"that's so far" ruby sighed. "rue, it's not that far, and you can stay with us sometimes" i shrugged. "but i dont want you to leave" she whined.
"rue honey, i know you're gonna miss your sister, but she cant stay here forever" mom explained. rue just let out a giant sigh making me feel bad.
"you'll move out someday too" i explained. "no, im gonna live here forever!" rue giggled. "great" dad joked, rolling his eyes. "are you still gonna be working at the diner?" mom asked.
"for now, yeah" i nodded. "dont you think you should be finding something different? maybe going back to school?" she ranted. i just rolled my eyes in response.
"yeah, i'm just not sure what i want to do" i shrugged. "i think nursing would be good for you!" she exclaimed. "what about mechanics?" dad added.
"mechanics sounds better than nursing" i agreed. "oh cmon you dont wanna be doing what the men do" she spoke. "mom, mechanics isnt just a man thing" i sighed.
"dani said i should do modelling though" i joked. "for what, playboy?" mom scoffed. "who knows, maybe i will" i smirked. i knew that would piss her off.
she let the topic go and we went along eating our dinner. "so whens the move out date?" dad spoke. "this weekend" i shrugged. "that soon!" ruby exclaimed.
"yes, rue...are you gonna help?" i smiled. she just shrugged in response as she picked at her food. "do you guys even have any furniture?" mom questioned.
"uh not quite" i sighed. "take some of the stuff in the basement! we dont need it anymore" dad offered. "sure, that'd be great...thanks dad" i smiled.
after dinner, i retreated up to my room to finally begin getting some stuff packed. slash got home a bit later and greeted me with a hug from behind and sweet kiss to the neck.
