One week later:
The emptyness of my bed was something I've always hated. Not one soul in here but my own and it scared me. After the other nights exciting news was it wrong that I didn't want bothered? I hate to even say it but I even felt this way with Colson. After the FaceTime, gender reveal and watching eveyone celebrate I was feeling lost again. It doesnt help that colson was still on the road until the middle of December. Maybe because today was one year exactly that it happened. The day my life turned around completely. I looked up at the one shelf, seeing the sonogram picture of that baby. I slowly got up and rubbed my face, hating how I was feeling. For once in my life I didn't want the comfort I so pushed myself to, the comfort that I was addicted to
Because that comfort zone wasn't here.
I got up out of bed and threw on a sweatshirt, looking out the window to see small snowflakes falling from the sky. Nobody ever tells you about this kind of heartbreak. I wiped my eyes, still watching the water flakes fall. Last year feels like a past life that I never wanted to return to and it kills me inside to think that way.
I walked away from the window and out of the bedroom. For it being only nine in the morning there was barely any light outside of these windows from the dark snow clouds, not even one speck of light in my eyes. Once I made it to the kitchen I sat down at the island, noticing my phone lighting up quickly. I shook my head and grabbed my tea bags from the counter, seeing the blue screen light up again.
It was Colson and by the looks of it, it was his tenth call in. I turned my phone over and sat down. I didn't want to talk to anybody, even if i love them so much it hurt. I cringed when I heard a car door. Seconds later a knock on the door. Who the hell would be here?
"Luna! It's Pete. Open up"! Pete yelled from the front door.
I sighed and got up, walking over to the door. When I answered it he gave me a worried look then relaxed his face.
"What". I groaned and he walked right past me, setting his phone on the counter next to mine.
"I know you dont want bothered". He said and grabbed my phone. "Oh good. It does work". He said and rolled his eyes.
"Pete, I appreciate the check in but I would rather be alone today". I whispered and he shook his head.
"You're gonna want to see this". He said and showed me my phone.
"Lyrics"? I asked.
He nodded. "You haven't heard it yet have you"? He asked
I shook my head. "Hear what. My phones been downstairs all night". I said.
He walked over to the speaker and turned on the Bluetooth. "Well you might wanna sit down."
I worried walked over to him and he held my phone up high.
"Pete cmon. This isn't funny. Whats wrong"? I asked.
He gave me a sincere look and put my hand on the phone. "Press play".
I sighed and hit play and soon the music filled the living room.
"You didn't wake up today
I didn't get to see your face,
Was it my fault? Was it karma?
Was your fate in the hands of my conscious".
I couldn't speak. The palpitations in my chest refused my words to come out. I looked down at the Lyrics as Colson's voice mellowed me out.
"So sad we ended up here
So sad but everything's clear
Could I save your life if I pressed rewind?
I wish I could go back to November last year".
I looked over at Pete who had just wiped a tear from his eyes. Colson actually made Pete cry.
"When did he do this"? I whispered.
"The night I left". I heard.
I turned to see the man himself, standing in the doorway with his bags. His black hoodie still had snowflakes on it.
"One day in another ten weeks
I never even got to hear your heartbeat
Last year feels like a past life
We said, "Forever, " on the very first night".
The music played in the background as he walked over to me. He wasn't supposed to be home until next month. I gasped, trying to catch my breath. He gave me a smile and held his arms out for me. Was it wrong that I didn't want to be touched? But my mind spoke for me as my legs practically ran to him, wrapping my arms around him.
"I'm sorry". He whispered.
I started crying harder now. Maybe this was what I needed, and he was the only one to give me that feeling.
"Obviously I never wanted to write this song
Promise to me when the stars shine bright
You'll take a comet to me to show me you're still there, Eternally".
"Dont be sorry". I cried and he sat us down on the couch.
"I am Luna. I keep fucking up in times where you need me. This was one of those times where I can never forgive myself".
I grabbed his face. "Dont talk like that. The doctors told us themselves. That baby wasn't ready for us. This little boy is".
He shook his head. "He's ready for you".
I pulled him into me as the song ended softly in the background, only to play again. I turned back and noticed Pete was gone.
"I keep ruining things". He mumbled.
"Stop that. We both do. This time we were both at fault, but this baby deserves us. You and me". I whispered.
He didn't say anything, just his breathing and the song was all I needed. He laid down so I laid on his chest. Thats when he started to hum the words with the music.
"So sad we ended up here".
I kissed his chest and wiped my eyes. Who was I kidding? Colson had always been that piece of me that I needed. I would like to think I was his. We did say Forever and that was never going to change. This baby was both of our forevers.
The end (stay turned for the last and final book, this one is still in the process of writing so it's going to be a later start then how this one started)
