Mila
Five years later.

No this can't be happening.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

I pulled the eviction notice off of my door, I had one week to leave because I was a little late on rent.

I knew this would happen, I didn't have any time to get a job so I tried working from home, I baked cakes and sold them as a job but I guess it wasn't good enough to pay the bills.

I press my palms to my eyes.

I walked into the house lay on the couch and closed my eyes.

I've been through a lot these past few years, me and my kids have been through hell back back.

I think back to the day my mother kicked me out of the house I paid the bills for, as my father sat there saying nothing.

"I am not helping you raise a child in my house!" This was the first thing she said to me when she found out I was pregnant.

She called me all kinds of names, luckily I still had a portion of the money from that night...

I packed my stuff took the money and left.

I had no one to stay for, it was only me and my child from that point to now, and I promised myself to never abandon them as I was always abandoned.

It was hard, I was 18 years old when I got pregnant and found out I was having twins, I moved far away from home and raised my kids all by myself.

Do you know how hard it is raising twins at 18 with barely any money and no one to help you? It was fucking hard.

But it's been 5 years, my kids are just starting kindergarten and so far I did okay.

I had gotten into a relationship a while back, he was sweet and helped me with my kids, and then it got bad.

It's like one day a flip switch and he was no longer the man who loved the heck out of me and adored me, he was not the man who I let watch my babies when I had to bake cakes to sell, he was not the man who I thought I was in love with.

He was an abusive person.

When everything went down I took my kids and ran far away.

I let out a deep breath at the memory.

I hated thinking about it.

grabbing my wallet from the counter I left the small apartment I called home and began walking to the grocery store since I didn't have a car.

I kind of liked it though, it was peaceful, we don't live in the best area but it wasn't the worst either.

"hey Mila!" my neighbor Sam waved over from his small porch and I smiled and walked over, Sam was a nice old Italian man and my kids loved him, he has been welcoming since we moved down here.

"hey Sam, what are you doing up so early?" I asked.

"just enjoying the sun, it's been getting nice out." he smiled timidly and I nodded.

"Well I'm headed to the store, did you want me to pick you up anything?"

"oh thanks okay sweetie, I'll survive." he smiles and I nod and continue my walk.

ten minutes later I finally make it to the grocery store, I grab a cart and look around, I'm on a tight budget so I mainly focus on what I'm making for dinner when the kids come home from school.

I grab a few things and head over to the register before I end up going overboard, I pay for my items and leave the store starting the walk back to the apartment.
