❝So, my sweet niece. Anything in your life I should be aware of? Some cute guys in your class? Or one of those volleyball players?❞
Yoshikawa Kagami jumped at the sudden question. It was rare for her to be part of a conversation during a family function. The middle schooler looked up and saw her aunt sit down opposite to her, a glass of red wine in her hand.
Yoshikawa nervously fiddled with her fingers and stared at her lap. Her parents were currently in the kitchen, leaving her alone with her aunt. "No."
Her aunt raised an eyebrow, taking a sip from her wine. "What about that boy you once mentioned? Yama something..."
The middle schooler furrowed her eyebrows, slightly confused. "Kageyama? Kageyama Tobio?"
"Yes! Him." The older woman exclaimed, before taking another sip of wine, "What's his deal?"
Yoshikawa sighed, "He's a volleyball player. We play the same position, are the same age and have similar plays. Everyone keeps comparing me to him... It's really annoying."
Her aunt raised an eyebrow with a knowing smile, "Is it now?"
"Yeah, it's all anyone ever talks about with me during official matches. Kageyama this and Kageyama that, he isn't even all that. He's just tall and happens to be a good setter, what does that even have to do with me?"
"What does that even have to do with me?" A sentence Kagami found herself repeating in her head over and over again as she sat in class.
Ever since the boy's team lost against Seijoh, narrowly missing their shot at winning, she can't stop thinking about it. Teams win and lose all the time, but for some reason this was different. She felt this loss like it was her own, usually she'd just get on with her day, but she could tell that the boys were hit hard by that loss only by watching them from the stands, and it affected her as well.
She only didn't understand why. Maybe it was a painful reminder of her own teams loss, maybe she just felt bad for them since she saw how hard the boys have trained, or maybe she was just overly emotional for the heck of it.
"Hey, Yoshikawa-san? Do you want to eat lunch with us?" The familiar voice snapped the setter out of her thoughts, she looked up from her notebook and saw Yamaguchi standing in front her desk, Tsukishima stood a little behind him, looking rather annoyed.
