The sound of a volleyball hitting the ground could be one of the most exciting or defeating sounds known to a dedicated player. If someone scored a service ace or managed to spike the ball over the net, it was one of the most beautiful sounds, but the same could be said for the opposite, when the opponent manages to get the ball past the blockers and receivers it was a deafening sound that echoed in one's ears, reminding someone of their own failure and short comings.
Kageyama had been practicing the new falling set for what seemed like an eternity, he had empty water bottles lined up to represent Hinata, who he had banned from practicing with him until he could reliably make the set, but even after a dozen or so tries, he still hadn't hit a single one of them.
Yachi had been there too, watching and tossing the ball up for him the entire time since Coach Ukai was dragged away to go drinking with the other coaches and teachers. She felt bad for Kageyama, she really wanted this to work for both him and Hinata. After their fight she got really worried that their partnership and friendship would be ruined, but slowly it seemed to build itself up with the promise of the new and improved fast attack. Still, he seemed distracted, bothered by something even as she handed him his water bottle for a short break from setting.
"Ah, Kageyama-kun? Are you alright? You seem distracted..." Yachi spoke up hesitantly.
Kageyama stopped drinking and looked up at her with furrowed brows, "Huh? What do you mean?"
Yachi paused, thinking about the right way to phrase it without sounding rude, "It's just you look like you're deeply thinking about something... but it's not about what you're doing right now, is it about Hinata?"
Kageyama stayed silent as closed up his water bottle. He debated if he should say something or not, struggling with himself, wondering if he should talk to Yachi about what was really bothering him; a certain brunette setter that suddenly seemed to live rent free in his mind. Well, Yachi seemed smart and if he were to talk about his thoughts to the other boys on the team they'd probably laugh at him and wouldn't take him seriously, he also didn't feel like calling his sister, she was probably busy anyways. So, he took a deep breath and kept his gaze on the floor, slightly embarrassed by what he was about to say, "What do you think about Ka- ah, Yoshikawa?"
"Heh?" Yachi blinked, completely stunned and surprised. She had expected a lot of things, mostly related to volleyball, but she didn't expect him to bring up their mutual friend. "Oh, um, s-she's nice. She's really pretty, very smart, but she's also a little intense sometimes? She really hates to lose and is really competitive too. W-why do you ask?"
