We both knew you never stood a chance with that team. And your blonde little friend and that weird fast attack you two had going on, isn't really yours, is it?

We lost. Get over it.

Kagami entered her home in silence as Mishima's and Kaede's words echoed in her mind. The two first years haven't talked at all on their way back from the internet high, instead they immediately went home after their team meeting. The rest of the team thought of it as weird, but didn't say anything, their loss still heavy on everyone's mind.

The brunette mindlessly took off her shoes and as she looked back up her mother approached her, a kitchen towel thrown over her shoulder and an apron around her waist.

Ever since Kagami could remember it's been only the two of them in the house for most of the time, since her father was busy with working in Tokyo or overseas. She remembered her parents discussing moving to Tokyo when she was younger, but her grandparents protested against that, saying that Kagami should grow up on the beautiful country side and not in the confinement of a big city. In the end it didn't matter what they said, because only a few months later her grandfather had a health emergency and ended up in the hospital for a few days. Ever since then her mother decided to keep an eye on her parents and not move to Tokyo.

Kagami was too young to have an understanding of the situation back then, but she did always wonder what her life would be like if she grew up in Tokyo instead.

"You're back early, honey." The older woman said, watching as her daughter put away her shoes.

Kagami nodded and picked up her bag she had previously put down. "Oh, yeah. We lost the first match."

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Kagami took a deep breath and put on a forced smile. "It's okay, Mom. It smells good, what are you cooking?"

The mother returned the smile and walked over to her daughter, ruffling her hair. "Your favourite of course. I thought we could celebrate tonight when you won your match," she let out a chuckle, "Clearly I underestimate high school volleyball. But we can still use it as a cheer up."

Kagami continued to smile and carefully removed her mother's hand from her head. "I'm not hungry right now. I'll go shower first."
