~Author's POV~
Ada, who just woke from a peaceful sleep which she hadn't had in years, let a yawn escape her mouth. She itched her bleary eyes as she stood in front of Mabel's door contemplating whether to knock or not. Realising there was no time to waste and the urgency of her job as the maid of honor, she pulled the door knob.
The door opened to reveal an empty bed. Ada was startled, Mabel would normally still be in bed by this time. Noticing the wrinkles on the bed, she concluded that Mabel would have
just gotten up and headed to check the bathroom. She took a peek at the bathroom but she wasn't there.
Ada's heart rate quickened, she strided to the closet immediately
but there was no sign of Mabel.Heaving in frustration as fear swept through her, she ran her hands through her wig which was disheveled from sleeping. Remembering that she had her phone with her she immediately dailed Mabel's number, placed the phone on her ears and said a silent prayer as she expectantly awaited an answer. The sound of a phone ringing caught her attention and she turned to see Mabel's phone lying on the nightstand.
"Shit!" She muttered, removing her phone from her ears.
Ada dashed out of the room like a mad woman, running down the stairs. She was so scared of what Mabel would do, Mabel had told her of her plans to elope but why did it have to be now?
She met with Mabel's parents who stood across the stairs, awaiting good news.
Ada broke the news. "I can't find Mabel." She panthed barely recovered from the run that she just had seconds ago.
"She's not in her room." She announced when she noticed the puzzled look and uneasiness on Chinonye's face.
"What!?" Her father screamed looking from Ada to his wife. "Emeka, tell the boys to search the house, the whole compound!" He ordered his personal bodyguard who had been on standby at the house to prevent Mabel from running away. He knew very well what his daughter was capable of.
Ada had so many questions running through her minds, she kept thinking where on earth Mabel would be if she wasn't found in the house. Ada stomped her feet on the ground, running her hands through her scattered hair as she awaited the feedback of the bodyguards. Mabel's father still managed to have a composed behavior, he wasn't pacing around the room like his wife or going crazy like Ada: he was very calm, making calls to different people.
Everyone in the room looked up expectantly when Emeka rushed in with his other boys. "We couldn't find her sir." His head was bowed as he spoke to Mabel's father who was a few feet away from him.
"Jesus!" Mabel's mother screamed.
Her father gave a long sigh and Ada felt a rush of shivers through her spine.
"Get out of my sight. I'd handle your case after the wedding." Her father said with so much venom and shot Emeka a disdainful look. Emeka bowed his head again to greet before turning to leave the room.
Just then, something clicked in Ada's head. Mabel wouldn't do a thing like this without hinting her first. She pinched the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes in an attempt to remember a hint. Her eyes shot open when she remembered what Mabel said to her last night at the club and also the last conversation they had.
"Third mainland bridge!" She exclaimed running up the stairs to her room, she grabbed the nearest key that she could find right on her dressing table and had a quick land down the stairs.
She didn't wait to answer the questions that were being thrown at her by her aunt who was in a state of unrest or by her mom, who just woke and probably just heard the news. Ada dashed out of the house not caring that she was still in her night robe. She could still feel the burning gaze of her uncle from the window as she rushed to her Lexus 350 jeep.
