JASON'S POV3 weeks later
In a hospital room that squeaked clean and pristine, it had become our home for the last few months; Mabel told me so.
The last few weeks, I happened to be the center of attraction. My family was around most of the time, my friends showed up one at a time promising to come again.
For the first time in seven days, the room was quiet and empty; just Mabel and I watching the sunset. Holding her safe in my arms, she looked up at me through her lashes, smiling pretty at my face and I just smiled back; pulling her closer so she could know that I was never letting go.Mabel kissed my lips. "Thank you for waking up." She whispered into my neck, her breath fanning the area.
I gave her a smile, Mabel was more than enough for me but still part of my life was missing. I couldn't remember who I was, what I did or what I said, all I knew was that I wanted Mabel on my side, forever.
My memory was a blank slate, the doctors said it would take some time to get it back in full so I had to relearn who I was. My mother reminded me of the son I was, loyal and responsible, always placing family first. My sister, Lilly, reminded me of our closeness despite the age gap, childhood memories, our banter and fights, all the times we were all we had. As for Mabel, it didn't seem like she was ready to tell our story.
Shutting my eyes, flashes of my last traumatic memory filled my mind. I felt a sharp pain, threatening to blow my head up at the back of my head. The doctor told me about migraines, that I would have them frequently as I recover my memory. Groaning, Mabel whipped her head up at me, scared for me.
"Jason what's wrong?" She probed.
The flashes came again, this time much more clearer. I could feel the pain, my fears, my anxiety, my scream in that moment. Sighing deeply, I decided to confront the last memory I had.
With hazy eyes, my mind recollected the events that led to this moment. Tall glass walls surrounding me, I stood before a light skinned man with the most intimidating aura, he was angry but so was I. His words infuriated me that I lost it and stormed out of his presence but his last words, stuck in my brain like magnet - don't ever think of yourself my son. He was my father.
Letting the door thud behind me, I took quick strides to the elevator, fuming with anger as I tapped my feet on the floor impatiently. Reaching downstairs, I snatched my keys from the valet and zoomed off without looking back at the life I left behind.
Turning into the express, I dialed the number of the only person I wanted to see: Mabel. She picked up but it was too late, a trailer charged towards me blaring it's honk. Impulsively, I stepped on the pedal, eyes searching for a way out. Adrenaline pumped through me, my heart beat pulsating, my car tumbled in the air before crashing to the ground. My bleeding eyes caught a glimpse of Mabel's name on the shattered screen of my phone before I saw pitch black, transitioning onto the bridge between life and death.
Breathing heavily, the monitor beeped louder, I opened my eyes to see a perturbed Mabel with scary eyes."Jason what did you see?" She demanded, glancing at the monitor then back to me. "Tell me what happened." She gripped my arms, holding it tighter, eyes searching for answers.
I shook my head in disagreement, Mabel was the best person to tell me, the only person I trusted.
"What happened to me?" I sighed, the monitor beeping slower than usual.
