Mabel's POV
One week later
The weather was dull today, the morning far from bright unlike other days. I stood at the large window of our room watching the clouds grow dim and the particles of sand and dust that the gusting wind carried.
The rumbling of thunder made me flinch and the lighting cast light across our room for few seconds. At this point I stared into space, letting my thoughts overwhelm me. It was going to rain.
The jarring sound made by phone made me jump compulsively as my eyes scanned the room for it, knowing it was nearby. I found it lying on the bed and I reached for it, picked it up and answered the caller who happened to be Ada.
By this time the Heavens opened and rained down. The rain splattered aggressively, making a slight sound against the glass, and blurring my vision.
"Hello." I pressed the phone against my ear.
Ada made a long shriek, followed by ragged breathing and series of hiccups. My heart rate doubled in fear.
"Ada what is it?" I demanded, fear enveloping me, goosebumps sitting on my skin. Something is wrong.
She breathed hard and all I heard was her pant and I was scared that her asthma would get worse.
"Ada... Talk to me! Where are you?! I'll come to you!" I screamed at my highest pitch.
She sobbed. "Mabel you need to get here now...we need you..."
I spun around, rushing to my dresssing table and grabbing one of the keys my hand found.
I dashed out of the room and skipped some stairs as I ascended it. My eyes caught a glimpse of Jason whose office door was left ajar, he put his phone call on hold when he saw me in a haste moving in haze.
"Mabel where are you going?"
Pretending not to hear him, I increased my pace not wanting to be delayed.
"You can't go out right now, it's raining." His voice sounded fainter almost lost from traveling in space.
Then I heard his slip ons screech against the intricate marble floors and I could tell he was coming after me.
When he catches up he blocks my way and all I see is his frame standing in the way. "The forecast says it's dangerous to go out right now." His voice is gentler this time.
Yet, anger floods me as I look up at him through his lashes, with a stink glare.
"Get out of my way!" I spoke through gritted teeth and didn't get a reaction from Jason, he just folds his arms and stand still.
"I'm sorry I can't."
I lock my eyes with him and I realise that he's not backing down. Our eyes remain locked and I knew I wasn't taking chances of pushing him because he's built.
"There's an emergency and I'm in a hurry. You either come with me or you get out of my way."
With that I manouver my way out of his frame when he's caught off guard. In seconds, he ran after me.
I opened the door and stepped outside hearing the door thud, I knew it was him. Outside felt cold, there was a union between the wind and the rain that fell hard against the ground causing the wet sand to rise and rest on other surface. Consciously, I rubbed my hands against my arms to ignite warmth.
I stepped out of the porch, drops of rain falling on me. Jason rushed over to me, we stood under the rain as if it had no effect on us.
"I'll drive." He told me and spread out his palms.
