Author's POV
Adaobi sighed exasperatedly, pulling the door knob so tightly that it would have lost its breath if it was human. The door opened and she entered into the large office, giving her husband a condescending look.Chinedu spared her a glance and continued reading the paper in his hands.
Adaobi scoffed frustratedly, making herself comfortable by seating on the swivel chair right opposite to him.
"Really Chinedu? Is this what we're doing now? Pretending like I'm not here?" Her tone was high pitched laced with anger.
"You barged into my office."
She gave a sarcastic laugh that only lasted seconds. "I'm your wife! Not your employee! I can enter your office whenever I like." She retorted.
Chinedu clenched his teeth, he knew his wife was up for a fight and he wasn't ready for that. He let the paper fall to his desk and folded his arms, giving her full attention.
"What do you want?"
The heat in Adaobi's chest fell, she gave a small sigh of relief as she let her angry gaze become softer and fall to his face.
"The Kids are going on a vacation. I told them to take one week. They need it, their privacy. Mabel needs it more to process her grief."
"What?!" He was astounded. "You did this without talking to me first?"
Adaobi gave him a condescending look, rolling her eyes stylishly.
"Says the man who makes decisions without running it by anyone."
Chinedu's tongue was tied in shock.
Adaobi felt triumphant. "I just decided to let you know because Jason isn't going to be working for those weeks."
Chinedu creased his brow on hearing that, becoming alert.
"Jason needs a break for once and most importantly right now, his wife needs him."
"Why would you make such decisions without me?"
She stared at him with a blank expression.
"I would have supported it too, it is only right that I was involved in this too. Remember, I want the best for our children and I care about Mabel too."
Adaobi eyed her husband. "Oh please! Don't act like you care about anybody but yourself. Mabel. She's just some important item in your business deal." She eyed him disdainfully.
"You want the best for our children." She mimicked with a shriek voice, gritting her teeth."Adaobi this is not the time."
"Of course! Oh yes, sure. There is never a time for anything if it's not you! You know what, I don't want to fight with you. I never agreed to this marriage, but now it's happened and we need to help these Kids out now."
"Jason is a full grown man, he knows his duties as a husband."
"Yet you treat him like a child, you've never given him a chance to choose or even prove himself, to the extent of choosing a wife for him."
"Adaobi!" He warned.
"And you're here expecting them to make babies overnight when there is no mutual feeling between them, you're so blind to see that they're fooling us with this facade."
