A 2023 Ford Mustang Dark horse, A Prada Satin slingback pumps with crystals, A black chanel Vintage timeless bag, Black double breasted jacket with black turtle neck and transparent pop-socks to match. Dark Sunglasses with oval lense and a thick rim. Cartier Vintage diamond earrings and bracelets. All these were the pros of being Mrs Obinna Johnson, the cons? My husband loved his work more than he'll ever love me, we lived like strangers.
My second time here and I still had to get a look at the tall building, Royal Star Tower. I spared no glance to the security guards and doorkeepers at the entrance of the tall building.
When I entered, everything
stopped. I realised in that moment that everyone knew who I was. I loved the attention I gathered so I put on a show, stuttering through the large reception. It felt like a runway because I passed through the midst of bowed heads of employees who had cleared the way for me. Hell, I heard them whisper, she's the wife of the vice-president. I hated being married to Jason, the reality of it made my skin ick. Yet, I put on a show like I loved it.The elevator chimed and I knew I was on the thirty eighth floor. First thing I saw was the receptionist. I observed her working diligently, typing gently on her apple laptop. I tried to be of my best behaviour and not cringe.
"Where is my husband?" I demanded, taking off my glasses to give her a clearer view of my face. She stared at my face, avoiding my eyes. I must be scary.
"He's in a meeting," Her voice didn't shake today and I thanked God for her. "With the board of directors." She added, her eyes darting back to her laptop.
"Where?" My voice was harsh, I was in a haste and nobody would waste a second of my time.
"The end of the hall, by the right." She said it so casually, maybe she couldn't guess my next move.
I spun around, my back facing her. "I'm sorry ma'am, you're not allowed to go near the conference room." That was when she realised.
Oops! Ignoring her, I started walking towards the right, following her directions. I heard footsteps approaching and I concluded it was Janet.
I turned to face her.
"You need to go back to your desk, sit your ass down and do your job because one call from me and you'd be out of this job with no replacements in the country for the next six months."Knowing that I struck a nerve, I folded my arms waiting for her next action.
Janet bowed her head. "I'm sorry ma." Hearing her voice made me feel guilty, I was taking out my anger on her and I felt bad but I didn't care.I watched her turn and disappear before I put my glasses on, spun and waltzed down the hallway.
Getting to the room, I could see the members of the board, which included Jason and my cold-hearted father-in-law seated through the glass walls. Two men, with towering heights, clad in suits, wearing ear coms stood at the door and I concluded they were door keepers.
"Now open the doors would you?" I smiled wickedly, standing in a pose.
"I'm sorry ma'am but you can't go in." One of them, who was shorter, wearing a bald hairstyle and had tribal marks told me.
Anger heated up my face into a frown.
"Try me." The look I gave them was condescending as I dared. I went ahead to reach for the knob when I was plagued. I prayed for his sake that it wouldn't be what I thought. The other door keeper, who stood by the right had placed his hand on my wrist in an attempt to restrain me from pulling the knob. I took off my glasses with my free hand and gave him the deadliest stink eyes that could creep a man to his grave.
